“Dude, whenyousaidyou asked her out, I was thinking you were planning a date somewhere romantic. Why in the world are you taking her to a family dinner?” Evan asked with a shocked look on his face.

“I don’t know, maybe because she feels like family already,” I laughed.

“Oh, Jamie and Xander are going to eat both of you alive,” he said, barking out a laugh.

“I’d love to see them try,” I hissed.

“Alright,” he conceded, raising his hands up. “Did you send her the dress?”

“Yes, she called me this morning. She loved it.”

“She is very much welcome,” he chuckled. I rolled my eyes. “Did you hook… pardon me, did you meet up with Jolene?”

“No, I'm meeting with her in a few minutes, though.”

“Where? Here?” he asked as he looked around the office.

“Yes, is there a problem with that?” I inquired.

“You have a girlfriend, Daniel.” His voice had a hint of disgust.

“Dammit, Evan, I don’t plan on doing whatever it is you are thinking of.”

“She’s your ex, man. You never stay alone with your ex. It’s an unspoken rule, a basic one.”

“We're just friends now. And besides, I'm not going to be alone with her. You’re here, aren’t you?”

“I have somewhere else I need to be.”

“Phil is here, isn’t he?” I laughed.

“Do not mess this up, Daniel. You're seeing Amy now and I actually like her.” He shot me a serious glance as he left.

“Mr. Reed, Jolene is here to see you, sir,” Phil popped in to say.

“Send her in,” I said as I gestured with a wave of my hand.

“Good morning, Daniel,” Jolene said warmly.

“Morning, Jolene. It’s nice to see you again,” I said as I rose up to shake her hand. I gestured to her to have a seat on the chair opposite mine, but she sat on the couch. It was alarming how people preferred sitting on the couch whenever they came into my office.

“Sorry, I am really exhausted,” she said as she brought out a pack of cigarettes from her bag. “Can I?” she asked.

“It’s an office, Jolene. No,” I replied. She laughed as she put the pack back in her bag.

“Good to see that you've changed,” she smiled.

“The same can be said about you.”

She had indeed changed. Her facial features still looked the same, radiant and beautiful, but she had a completely different vibe around her. She had a compelling look that made it seem like she could get me to do whatever she wanted as long as I stared into those starry brown eyes of hers. Her hair was a perfect blend of brown and black and it might have been a wig, but I had no idea how to make that call. Her body was, in one word, banging. Her red dress clung tightly to her skin, revealing her hourglass-like shape, and she gestured her hands in a way that made her red nails noticeable.

“Nah, it can’t,” she laughed.

“So, you said you have something important to tell me.” I said, feeling uncomfortable suddenly. Dammit, Evan.

“Yes,” she replied as she took out a hard drive from her bag. She walked toward me and placed it in my hand.

“What's this?” I cast a suspicious gaze on the object she had given me.
