“Stay,” she said lazily, snuggling into my chest. I wanted nothing more than to stay here in her warmth.

“It’s six and I have to get to the office early today,” I explained as I gently moved her, sat up, and started to get dressed. Her mood seemed to dim just a bit.

“There’s a family dinner at my father’s on Saturday. Would you like to accompany me?” I asked, trying to brighten up the mood.

“Accompany? Like a bodyguard or something?” She laughed.

“As my date, Amy.”

“I would love to,” she said as she leaned in for a kiss.

“Alright then. I have to go.” I gave her another kiss. “I’ll see you later.”

“Okay. I'll see you at work.”

I strolled into my office feeling more confident than I normally did. It had been a rough month, and it was finally coming to an end. I hoped my problems would end with it, too. Evan was already there, and he was on the phone, probably with one of the executives questioning him for barely being in the office. He had once told me that he hated staying in his office because it always reminded him of his parents. It was understandable; their portraits were hung in every hallway.

I felt great today and I could point out two obvious reasons. The first was my night with Amy and the second was the great news I was about to share with Evan. I unbuttoned my jacket as I sat down.

“Daniel, what’s up with you?” he asked as soon as he ended his call.

“What do you mean?”

“You look different. Like you just won the lottery or something.” He laughed.

“Well, it’s even better, my friend,” I replied. He looked at me expectantly and I continued. “The research was a success.” I could feel a huge grin materialize on my face.

“Whoa, that is great news Daniel,” he applauded.

“Then, there's Amy.”

“What about her?” he asked, brows furrowed. “Has she made progress?”

“Yes, but there is something else,” I said as I watched his facial expression closely.

“What is it? Spill.”

“We've been seeing each other.”

“What?” he asked, disbelief clearly written on his face. “When? How? I thought you two hated each other.”

“We did,” I answered. “But it’s different now. I even asked her on a proper date this morning.”

“You asked her out in the lab?”

“Is there anything wrong with that?” I asked.

“Wow, Daniel. You could at least be a little more romantic,” he said as he placed his palm on his face.

“It was at her house. I spent the night.”

“Oh, my God!” he exclaimed. “How long has this been going on for? Were you ever planning on telling me?”

“I had no idea how to explain our relationship until now.”

“So, I am guessing you guys had sex since you slept over at her place.” I didn’t respond.

“You are unbelievable, Daniel.” He laughed. “Let’s hope she won’t turn out like the others.” He let out another burst of laughter.
