“Sake for Lily, and a Scotch for me. Sushi Matsu, Sashimi take….” Jonas said, along with a few other orders. Way more than I would ever eat. I reached under the table and tugged his hand as the waitress turned to Ian.

My brow lowered. “Hey. What was that? I don’t even know half of what you ordered,” I whispered.

“You mind? I thought it would be fun to try a few things,” Jonas mused.

“I do, too. But you didn’t even ask,” I whispered.

“Because you would have ordered a salad, and that’s not enough for a woman that had only a yogurt or cereal this morning.” He leaned over and pressed his lips to the side of my face.

I shuttered my eyes and tried to suppress my grin. When I leaned back, I noticed Ian staring at me. He cleared his throat.

“Make that another Scotch,” Ian said. The waitress beamed at the two men, mouthed “wow” to me, and smiled back agreeably. She returned a few seconds later with a small assortment of bread, cheese, and olives.

“Have you ever been to San Francisco, Lily?” Ian asked. “I’m trying to talk Jonas into coming to a conference there.”

“No,” I said, taking a sip of my drink and sucking in. Strong. “From what I can see, it’s beautiful. I always wanted to visit.”

“Yes. It’s one of my favorite cities,” Ian said. “Not that I will get to see much of it when we go there.”

“Muir Woods is the place I always wanted to see,” I said. “Well, the forest moon of Endor,” I muttered.

Jonas eyed me inquisitively, while Ian laughed, “You’re a Star Wars fan?”

I blushed. “Yeah. A bit.”

“She has a shrine to them in her bedroom,” Jonas said teasingly.

Jonas reached out his hand and tucked my hair behind my ear.

Ian stared back at him and took a sip of his Scotch. “So. What would you like to discuss with Burt?” he asked, and they launched into a business discussion.

So much for not talking about it,I thought. The waitress returned with a large platter of sushi. Jonas moved his hand to my thigh. I gasped, and I tried to cover it with a cough. I could see a little smile play on his lips as he continued to speak to Ian.

Jonas’s phone went off. When he answered it, his face lit up. “Paul. Yes. You’re all set.” Jonas moved it away from his mouth and turned to me, “I’ll be right back.” He stood and walked away from the table.

I stared after him. His delight and eagerness to speak to his son I found touching. I wondered dreamily if he ever had that look on his face for me. My stomach warmed as admiration for him filled me once again. He must have felt it because he immediately looked back at me.

“Lily,” Ian said, calling my attention to him.

I turned my head to him and his lips parted.

“So, I hear you met at Sir Harry’s? You’re a publishing assistant?” Ian asked.

I laughed and nodded. “Yes. I work at Arch Limited. I tried to contact him about his book,” I said and sipped my drink.

“For the book,” Ian said and lifted the corner of his mouth. “I want to read it too, but he’s been quite tight lipped about it. You know if you ever do go out to San Francisco, I know a few people there. I actually toured Skywalker ranch.”

A grin spread across my face and I mockingly clasped my chest. “Oh my God. Wow. Did you take photos?”

Ian’s smile broadened. “Of course I did.” We laughed. “Now I’m smiling. Your smile is infectious,” he said quietly.

Jonas came back to the table and I turned to him.

“Paul was trying to squeeze in a few friends with him for his visit with me,” Jonas said, the corners of his mouth turned up.

“He doesn’t want to hang out with his dad. Give him a break,” Ian said. “You didn’t give in?”

“Nope,” Jonas said, lifting his chin and taking a sip of his drink. “I did, however, agree that he can meet a friend already living here.”
