Each car got on separate sides of me, and I started weaving between lanes. Traffic was fairly light, and I cursed the fact that the one time I needed more cars on the road, there were none.

Just don’t come to a full stop.

I patted my pocket, feeling the outline of the small pistol I had taken for myself. It would be pretty worthless unless we got close, and I was far enough from them to have no tactical advantage.

Both of their vehicles were roughly thesame size as my small truck, and each was edging towards me on the sides. Quickly, I took the gun out, and shot at the vehicle closest to me.

I heard a loud blast, and then the swerving of the other car. I turned towards the one I hadn’t shot, just in time, as he was fixing to shoot me.

Without thinking I ducked, pumping on the brakes.

Glass flew all over me and the entire seat as I spun around and slammed into a wall.

Good thing I did what I did; otherwise, I’d have been dead.

It was silent for a minute, and then I heard the voices.

“Get whoever’s in that truck and bring them to me,” said a gruff man. “Dead or alive.”

Shuddering, I assessed myself though I was still in shock.Does anything hurt? Is there blood?

The airbag had done its job as I only felt the soreness of my muscles from the whiplash.

The sound of steps approaching made me realize that I needed to state who I was if I wanted to live.

“Don’t kill me,” I shouted. “I’m a valuable hostage! I’m Frank King’s daughter.”

The next voice that I heard was a familiar one. Brody.

“Leave her be,” he said. “I’ll get her.”

Grappling with the debris, I could see Brody doing everything he could to get me out of the car. He was fastidious about the glass, and when I finally did see his face, he smiled.

“I’m glad you’re out of there,” he said. “There’s about to be blood.”

“Blood?” I asked.

Brody gave me a serious look.

“Your father didn’t tell you?”

“No…”

“There’s a mole inside your father’s circle, and they gave away his location.”

“And what are you doing here?” I asked. I didn’t expect to see Brody here, and I wanted to know who it was that was going to attack my father.

“That will all be explained soon,” Brody said. “But first, we have to get you taken care of.”

“Aside from a couple of bruises and scrapes, I’m fine,” I said, getting up. It irritated me to no end that every man always talked to me as if I was fragile. Seeing Brody didn’t make me feel much better. Even though I still wanted him, I felt betrayed that he was here.

Something is wrong. Very wrong. Who are these men he’s with? And why are they outside of my father’s compound?

Not many people knew its location, and I was sure Brody didn’t know.

Brody reached over to me to give me care, and I inched away from him.

“You tell me what’s going on or I’ll…” I didn’t know what I would do, but I knew I was mad.Was Brody trying to kill my father?
