Cirilla’s brow arched as she drew runes up my neck, careful not to touch the tattoo as if she knew it wouldn’t like it. After finishing with me, she moved to Fane and then scooted back to take a seat on the ground a few feet away.

Her golden irises brightened, and the fire crackled and popped, heating the room. Cirilla watched us, occasionally tapping her lips or humming. Maybe she could see something that we couldn’t.

As the minutes ticked by, I melted into Fane, unable to resist temptation. My head tilted back as did his, our breaths and heartbeats syncing.

Cirilla clasped her hands together and lowered them to her lap. “How long after the bite were you able to communicate with your thoughts?”

My muscles tensed.Shit. How did she know that?

“A few days,” Fane answered.

“I’m assuming you can feel each other’s emotions.” It wasn’t a question. She already knew.

Fane bristled. “I can feel hers, but I block her from mine.”

“Not always,” I snorted when he made a shocked sound. “I’ve felt them a few times.”

“When?” His head angled to the left as he tried to peer into my face.

Cirilla chuckled. “Blocking her will lose its effectiveness over time.”

I craned my neck so he could see me and stuck my tongue out. “Karma’s a bitch.”

“Someone is,” he muttered under his breath.

“Are there any other effects?” Cirilla asked before we started bickering.

Fane’s fingers flexed in mine. “We can separate our consciousness from our bodies and visit each other. I’ve been able to go to her from miles away.”

Cirilla’s gaze traveled around us like she saw something in the air. “Can you see each other?”

“Not at first, but now we can. If we want to,” Fane added. “Although, I’ve been doing all the visiting lately. I’m not sure if she can.”

Cocky prick.Of course he assumed he had more control over this than me. “I did it first, remember? In the alley and then at Logan’s in Vlehull.”

The elder wolf twisted a lock of silver hair between her fingers as her head tilted. “Will you both separate from your bodies now?”

I hadn’t done it in a while, but I concentrated, and seconds later, I stood next to Fane’s phantom form while our bodies remained on the floor, backs together and hands locked. “That is so weird,” I muttered.

Fane nodded. “I never get used to seeing another me.

Our real selves remained still, staring off into space. No, actually, Fane was moving. His thumbs gently stroked the back of my hands. Was he even aware that he was doing it?

Now that I’d noticed it, I could feel his touch even in this form.

Fane, the one beside me, dragged his finger down my neck, making me tremble. “I don’t think we’ve ever been out of our bodies simultaneously and touched. I wanted to know if it felt just as real.” He did it again, and this time both versions of me shivered. “It does.”

My heart pounded as I stared at him, drawn into those unusual eyes. I felt myself leaning toward him, and he stepped closer, his attention on my lips.

“Can you return to your bodies now?” Cirilla’s voice snapped us out of the moment, and I jumped back into my solid form.

The elder wolf rubbed her lips. “You two are very unusual.”

“Does that mean you have no idea what this link is or how to break it?” My pulse hammered through my veins as I cursed myself for almost letting Fane kiss me.

The elder wolf twirled her finger. “Turn to each other.”

I spun as Fane did, and his bare torso covered in tattoos and scars stole my focus. My hands twitched to reach out and touch the claw marks around his heart. Why did he have to look so damn good? I wanted to lick him.
