He opened the door. Three more men came in, followed by two women. They pulled in racks stacked with more clothes than a department store. Everything looked way out of my price range.Give me a ten-dollar t-shirt and call it a day.

“Come on. You're young enough to be my grandson. I’m not going to make a move on you,” Berry grinned.

I looked up at Giancarlo, and he nodded. I moved toward Berry, my gaze roaming over all the clothes. I prayed I didn’t have to try them all on.

“Sarah over there is going to hold up premade outfits. You say yes or no,” Berry said.

Simple instructions. She held up the first one. It was a baby diarrhea green sweater with black jeans that had more holes than material. It was a no for me.

“Yes.” They’d gone through so much trouble picking out clothes for me I didn’t want to tell them how much I hated it. Maybe it would look good on me if I gave it a chance.

Sarah went through five more sets. I said yes to all of them. Berry had a tape measure in his hand, holding it to my body as he looked up at me. “You like every single one of those? Even the pink dress with leather thigh-high boots?”

No.

“You picked out some really beautiful items.”

A groan came from behind me, and I glanced over to see Giancarlo frowning.

“Only say yes to what you actually want,” Giancarlo said. “Run through those again,” he called to the woman.

That was easier said than done. I cleared my throat and turned back to Sarah. She held up the clothes I’d already said yes to, waiting patiently for me to answer.

“Maybe not at this time.”

She nodded and moved on. With each set, I grew a little more confident in saying no. It might not have been a big deal for most people, but I never wanted to make someone feel bad for doing something for me.

The men came back into the house to help take some of the racks of clothes out. I’d dwindled it down to a single rack with just the right amount of clothes.

“Excuse me, how much will it cost?” I asked.

Berry listed off numbers to one of the girls before wrapping the tape measure around my waist. His blue eyes met mine, and although he smiled at me, I could tell he was studying everything I said and did.

“Don’t worry about it,” Giancarlo said.

I shook my head, already knowing what he had planned. “No.”

Giancarlo cocked a brow at me. I was seconds away from back-pedaling but held my tongue.

“I need to know how much is being added to my bill.” I wasn’t my father. I'd calculate everything down to the last penny. I had nothing, which meant the further I dug myself into a hole, the harder it would be to get out.

Berry whistled. “This one has balls.” He laughed as he stepped back from me. “We have everything. I will send over the itemized bill.” He winked at me and headed toward the door. “Tell Enzo and Benito to call every once in a while.”

I grabbed the first outfit on the rack and slipped it on. The fabric felt so soft against my skin that I internally groaned. By the time I finished, it was just Giancarlo and I left.

“Now I’m thinking about keeping you home.” He stepped closer and fixed my collar, his warm fingers brushing along my skin, leaving behind little sparks everywhere he touched.

“I’ll take that as you like it?”

Giancarlo smiled. “Something like that.”

“Price—”

Giancarlo turned away from me and headed toward the door. He hummed. “Split in half. I’ll put your end on your tab.” He glanced over his shoulder, hunger blazing in his dark gaze. “I’ll happily pay the other part of the bill. Plus, I’ve already given some of my personal suggestions to Berry.”

It was the best I was going to get out of him. “Okay.” I closed the front door behind me and ran over to the car. My fingers ghosted over the classic car.

“Don’t go falling in love with my baby. She's loyal to only one man, and it’s me.” Giancarlo kissed the top of his car as if he was truly smitten with it.
