Giancarlo grunted. “I’m never too sick for dick.”

I backed away all the same and went back to washing him up. “Well, after watching you make out with the toilet, I don’t think I can do it.” I didn’t want to push Giancarlo’s body. He'd come home after working so hard and then let me use him so roughly.

“Whose fault was it again?”

“I told you I followed the instructions. Your brother helped.”

“Yeah, Benito can’t cook to save his damn life.”

He’d seemed so confident to me. Every time I was lost for instructions, he had an answer.

Giancarlo grabbed my face, and I was forced to stare into his dark gaze. “You had fun hanging out with my brother?”

His fingers dug into my chin, making me think about his question.

I shrugged. “It was okay. He's terrifying but nice.” Was that the right word to use? He treated me more like a dog that Giancarlo had purchased on a whim than an actual person.

Giancarlo’s brows dipped, and his hold tightened. There was a darkness in his brown eyes that made him just as terrifying as Benito.

“But I still wanted you to come home.”

Giancarlo’s hold eased up, and I couldn’t help but think I’d said something right.

“Most people would have run.”

“Yeah, most people have somewhere to return to.” I grabbed the shower gel that smelled like him and the luffa. I poured a generous amount and rubbed it, working up a nice lather. I focused on washing him, refusing to meet his gaze again, instead favoring the suds that ran down his lean muscled body.

“Hey, look at me.” Giancarlo forced my head up again. “While you’re here, you have a place.”

My breath caught, and a lump formed in the middle of my throat. I had a place to return to. I nodded, pulling my head away before I slipped under the water. I didn’t want Giancarlo to catch me crying.

I hadn’t cried in front of anyone since I was a kid. For the first time, it wasn’t because I felt hurt. A warmth radiated in the middle of my chest that seemed to pulse through every nerve in my body.

What made this man, a practical stranger, invoke such wild reactions and emotions from me? I shook my head, clearing it of the unending questions. It felt like that was all I had when it came to being around Giancarlo. I blinked the water droplets from my eyes and stared up at him.

I hadn’t even noticed when he’d stood or moved closer. He reached past me, grabbing the shower gel. We said nothing else as he cleaned me. The air in the shower was thick as it blanketed us.

For the first time, I didn’t have any questions as Giancarlo’s hands glided over me. The way he washed me felt far more intimate than any words could convey. It was all over before I was ready. The water turned off, and I dashed out of the shower to grab both of our towels from the warmer. I held up Giancarlo’s before wrapping mine around my waist. It felt like a warm fluffy cloud against my skin.

“Thanks.”

He didn’t have to thank me. Giancarlo had bought me. Yet he still thanked me for the little things. I smiled and nodded as we left his bathroom. My gaze traveled to his bed.I wonder if he’ll let me sleep there, or will I be sent back to the guest room?

Giancarlo’s phone dinged. I watched him as he grabbed it. “He shouldn’t be sending me any work after trying to poison me.” He headed toward the closet instead of the bed.

“You’re leaving?” I didn’t mean to sound so sad. “I can go clean up.” I headed toward the door. I needed to do laundry anyway. I only had one outfit here.

“Get dressed.”

“What?”

“You’re coming with me,” Giancarlo said. He stepped back out of the closet and stared at me. “It’s bring your pet to work day.”

I grabbed the pillow off his bed and chucked it at him. Realization hit me just as the pillow slapped him in the face. “Oh, fuck. I’m so sorry.”

Boisterous laughter filled the air and gave me pause. He wasn’t mad at me? Giancarlo tossed the pillow on the bed.

“Hurry up and get dressed.”
