“My kink is silence. It really gets me going.”

He snorts, but then mimes locking his lips closed before throwing away the invisible key. I roll my eyes as my mouth begins to form a smile.

His eyes light up a bit, but he doesn’t say anything. Surprisingly, we finish our food without a word being spoken.

Shevon comes back to drop off our checks, but before I can reach for mine, Kaspian snatches it up. When I look at him, he puts his finger to his lips like he’s telling me to be quiet, and when Shevon walks by, he hands her both tickets with his card.

“You didn’t have to pay,” I tell him.

“Are we talking now?”

“Why are you such a pain in the ass?”

“I guess it’s my kink. To annoy people.”

I shake my head. “You’re good at it.”

“I’m quite good at a lot. Did you know silence kink is a thing? Were you being serious or just trying to get me to shut up?”

“Maybe both.”

“It’s used in BDSM. The submissive is to remain silent, and if they don’t, the dominant can dish out punishment. It’s also used in slave training.”

“That’s nice.”

“Are you a dominant?” he questions. “Into BDSM at all?”

“Why do you want to know? Do you want to submit to me?”

His head tilts to the side as his brows lift, like he’s surprised and considering it. “Might be fun. Not gonna lie,” he says with a laugh. “But I’m into guys. You haven’t really said.”

Shevon brings his card back. “Thanks guys. Have a good night.”

I stand up and put on my jacket before heading to the door.

Leaving Thai Me Down, I shove my hands in my pockets and walk around the corner of the restaurant, heading down Fifth Street and away from the main road.

“Did you park back here?” Kaspian asks, jogging to catch up. “So, I wanted to ask if you wanted to go out this weekend? Not on a date, since you still haven’t said whether you like guys or not. I mean, even if you did, I guess that doesn’t mean you have to like me, I’m just assuming…Anyway, I’m getting off track. That club I told you about. Well, okay, maybe it’s a little kinky, but I think it would be fun.”

I whirl around and push him into a narrow alleyway, shoving him against the brick wall of the restaurant we were just in. My hand is on his chest, my left foot between his feet as I push in close. His eyes show his surprise as they widen.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

His chest heaves, but he doesn’t attempt to push me back or move at all. “What do you mean?”

“You and this constant flirting you’re doing. Getting me to go to kink clubs with you? You think that’s what I want to do?”

“How would I know if I didn’t ask?” he counters, straightening his back.

My hand slides up to his throat, my fingers digging into his skin. I’ve never been into strangulation, but there’s definitely something intimate about it. His pulse races under my touch, his dark eyes stare into mine, and his breath dances across the back of my hand. To be this close, to be able to take my time if I wanted to…to feel the last breaths leaving someone’s body…it’s much different than a quick knife to the heart.

What Kaspian doesn’t offer me, and what I’ve enjoyed previously, is the begging. He’s not pleading for his life. He’s not even struggling. Maybe it’s because I’m not really trying to kill him. I don’t want him dead. Not yet anyway. I have more to learn.

His hand comes to rest on my wrist, his round eyes watching me carefully, like I’m an animal that could sink my teeth into him at any second.

“You gonna kill me?” he asks. “Because I invited you out?” I don’t respond, instead my grip tightens. “If you’re not interested, just say that,” he rasps. “But remember, you followed me. Tell me why.”

With another shove, I release his throat and take a step back. His fingertips brush against his Adam’s apple, but he continues to wait for an answer.
