“You will return all of her and the man's belongings.”

“Your men already took them, sir. They have everything. I promise!” he whimpered and I nodded once. My phone rang and Mattio informed me that Olivia had arrived.

“Cut the ties,” I ordered Angelo, who walked over and pulled a knife out to release the man's wrists from the cable ties. “You will not move or speak to her until I command it or you will not leave this room alive,” I snarled, ending our Italian conversation before Olivia arrived and he nodded in understanding.

The door opened and Olivia strolled in looking as beautiful as ever. The cut and bruises were masked by her make-up, but you could still see it faintly and a knot formed in my stomach. I gripped the edge of my desk to hide my fury and tried to give her a reassuring smile. She looked nervous.

Her eyes fell onto the man who had done this to her, and she paled slightly but quickly composed herself. I was surprised once again by her reaction. I half expected her to scream or cry or get upset. That would be an understandable reaction to be faced with someone who had attacked you, but she remained calm and composed. My heart swelled with pride as she pulled the chair further away from him, glaring as she sat down. She was my tough bambola.

“What is going on? Why is he here?”

“He is here because he owes you an apology. Don’t you?” I glanced over at the man who was now trembling like a leaf and he nodded his head slowly. “Look her in the eyes when you express your sincere regret.”

He lifted his head and stared straight at her. “Sorry miss. For what I did,” he spoke in slow, deliberate words, clearly English was not his strongest language and he was trying to find the words. “I need money. I did not mean hurt on you.”

I groaned. That was not an ideal apology, but as she looked up at me, I saw a small smile play on her lips. She didn’t speak but I knew she appreciated what I had done.

“He has given back your bag and all its contents as well as Luca’s phone and wallet,” I explained. I knew that was what she was most worried about. The security of my family and the thought made me warm. She nodded once.

“What is going to happen now?” she asked, looking from him to me.

“That is up to you. Police or let him go,” I said calmly. I watched as she bit at her bottom lip and thought hard. She looked so fucking cute.

“You decide,” she said quietly and stood up. “I don’t care enough about this man to make that decision.”

I nodded, “Ok. You can go to work now and I will be joining you all for breakfast in a few minutes.”

Those gorgeous eyes showed her surprise, but she just nodded before turning and leaving the room.

I lowered my head as I leaned my hands on my desk and took in a deep breath. The room pulsed with anticipation as the man waited to hear my verdict on whether I would let him walk out of here or throw him in jail.

Standing up, I stretched my neck out either side, prolonging his torture, and then took calculated steps towards him. His pleading eyes gazed up at me.

“You are a very unlucky man my friend.” I said, glancing out the window as the sun started to shine brightly over the horizon. “You could have picked anyone else to mug last night and you would have mercy. But you chose her. And no one fucks with her.”

He gasped in terror as I swiftly pulled my silent capped Glock 19 out from the back of my trousers and pulled the trigger. Life drained out his eyes as the blood poured from the hole in his head down his face. I felt the darkness that had consumed me since I saw her battered face slowly leave my body and I inhaled deeply. He was never going to leave this room alive.

“Clear this up and be discreet,” I ordered Angelo, who nodded as I walked out of my office and made my way downstairs for breakfast.

Unforgettable

Olivia

“So, what does the day have in store at the school of Olivia?” Cecilia asked as she picked apart her croissant. I don’t think she had actually put more than a crumb in her mouth since we had all been sitting at the grand dining room table. The children would always start the day by having breakfast with their mamma. There had only been a handful of times when Marco had informed me it was not one of her good days and it was just us. But Giovanni had never come for breakfast before. He was normally out of the house before the kids were dressed and ready.

“Ooo, can we play that game again? The one where you hide, and I count!” Raya chirped excitedly from her booster chair. I smiled at her growing confidence.

“Hide and seek? Of course. Raya is very good at hiding from me,” I winked, and Cecilia smiled affectionately at her daughter as she lifted her coffee to her lips. “But first we will do some reading and learn our numbers to 100. Then, later, we will play football!”

Sani’s eyes lit up and he punched the air dramatically. I had quickly learnt that Sani was extremely fond of three things: racing cars, football and his brother.

“Sounds like a wonderful day,” Cecilia smiled at her children, but I noticed it didn’t reach her eyes. She had seemed a little out of sorts the last few days. Since that incident between her and Giovanni’s uncle the night of the club. I wanted to ask if she was okay, but I wasn’t sure it was my place. She had made it quite clear that I wasn’t to speak a word of it to anyone and she was acting like it had never happened, so I guess she didn't want to discuss it.

“And you? Do you have any plans?” I asked politely, but really, I was worried about her. I had no idea what it was she did all day long when she didn’t come and spend some time with the children. She chuckled sadly.

“Oh, there is plenty for me to do. I am rushed off my feet. In fact, I was just thinking that perhaps I should book a holiday soon. A little get away,” she said quietly as she stared into her coffee mug, she held between two hands.

“Great minds think alike, mamma.”
