“For a dance,” I snapped. “Not for sex.Of any kind. Those were my exact words. You think I want to see you pump your tiny dick until it explodes? No, sir, you did not pay me for that, because there is not enough money in the world.”

His gaze narrowed into slits. “What did you think was going to happen when you dance like that?”

Oh, he was one ofthoseguys. The ones who thought it was my fault they couldn’t keep their dicks in their pants. Literally. I’d had a lifetime of them. Men who thought that my long auburn hair was there for them to touch. That I’d had my boobs done just so they could grope. That I wore tight shirts and short skirts so they’d want me. The anger turned into rage. “Get. The. Fuck. Out.”

“I need a tissue.”

I glared at him. “I don’t care. Wipe it on your damn jeans and leave.”

He shot me a cold stare and then zipped himself up.

I opened the door wide and stepped aside, while he stormed out into the main room and straight to the exit.

“Good riddance,” I mumbled, glad he hadn’t resisted. I was too stubbornly prideful to call security, unless it was a matter of life and death. I didn’t want anyone to think I couldn’t handle my own business.

Eve, the owner of the club and self-appointed mother hen to all her employees, watched over the commotion from where she was wrapped around her boyfriend, Boston. The club was otherwise empty, and they had probably just been waiting for me to finish so they could go home. Boston glanced at me, untangled himself, and respectfully mumbled an excuse to leave, disappearing down the corridor that led to Eve’s office and our changing rooms.

Eve didn’t even blink an eye that I was fully naked. In our line of work, we were used to it. “What happened?”

I crossed my arms beneath my breasts. “The usual. He thought this place was something it’s not.”

“Asshole.”

I shrugged. “Nothing I haven’t seen before. At least he paid well.” I leaned back into the room and fumbled for the cubby on the wall where I’d left the cash he’d paid me.

There was nothing there. The shelf was empty.

No fucking way.

Leaving Eve bewildered, I ran for the door, storming out into the parking lot, still without a stitch of clothing. “Son of a bitch!”

Terry, our security guy, stared at me with big eyes. “What happened? Are you okay?”

“That bastard stole my money!”

Terry jumped up and ran to the edge of the building, looking both ways for the man, but he’d clearly disappeared. “There’s no one there, sweetheart.”

“Argh!” I spun on my heel, storming back inside the club. Anger balled up in my throat, making it difficult to swallow down the emotion swamping me.

I would not cry. I would not give that creep the satisfaction. But damn if I didn’t want to. I really needed that money. Every cent I could get.

Boston and Eve met me at the doorway, Boston silently holding out a robe.

I took it gratefully, shrugging it on and tying the belt around my waist. “Shame not all guys are as decent as you are, Cop.”

We all still called him that, even though he’d quit his police force position and started a security company of his own.

Eve put an arm around me and guided me to the bar. Echo, our bartender, sympathetically pushed across a shot of whiskey.

I downed it in one, letting the liquid extinguish some of the fire inside me that was so hot I just wanted to let it out. Preferably in the form of punching someone.

Shame the only people here were ones I liked.

“I barely made bus fare without that guy’s money,” I complained before I could stop myself.

Eve was the world’s greatest, most supportive boss, and my best friend. I didn’t like complaining that this job did not always make ends meet. Lately, it didn’t even come close.

“I know. I’m sorry. It was dead in here tonight. I’ve been working on ideas to bring in some new blood.” She gazed down at her hands, her words softening. “Nothing will be as good as Fawn’s Pin the Penis on the Politician party, though.”
