“So worth it,” Leigh murmured. “Fuck, that was the best orgasm I’ve ever had. We have to do that again sometime. Sometime soon. Like, very soon.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.” Morgan lay down next to Leigh and wrapped her arms around her from behind.

Morgan was struck by how right it felt to have Leigh in her arms like this. She had never been much of a cuddler, but she found that she never wanted to let Leigh go.

She knew it wasn’t entirely professional to sleep with a client, but considering her boss was married to an ex-client, Morgan didn’t think she’d get into too much trouble over it.

“Leigh, have you seen my—oh.” Jake froze in the doorway and grinned at them. Morgan felt herself going red and wondered if there was any point in trying to pretend this was something other than what it looked like. Her quick assessment returned the result that it was entirely pointless. She and Leigh were quite obviously naked in each other’s arms, their clothes in a pile on the floor and the sofa truly messed up from vigorous sex.

“Well, it’s about time.”

“Shut up, Jake,” Leigh grumbled while Morgan snatched a blanket to cover them. Leigh didn’t seem at all self-conscious, but Morgan didn’t know Jake well enough to have him seeing her naked, even if he wasn’t interested in what he saw.

“I take it you told her, then.”

“Yeah. Actually, we should talk, Jake. Morgan, do you want to tell Jake about what you found?”

Leigh got up and sauntered over to her clothes, getting dressed at a leisurely pace. Morgan stayed where she was, her eyes flitting between Jake and Leigh. Both of them were completely at ease. Jake even seemed a little smug. Exactly how obvious had she and Leigh been about their mutual attraction?

Jake glanced at Morgan. “I’ll wait outside. Shout once you’re dressed.”

“Thanks, Jake.” Morgan waited for the door to close before dropping the blanket and going for her clothes.

“You don’t need to be self-conscious in front of Jake, you know. We usually don’t hide anything here. He’s seen plenty of my partners walk naked through the house to get breakfast. It doesn’t bother him.”

“It bothers me, at least for now. I guess I still need to get used to this situation.”

“Yeah. At least Jake will be able to bring Mike over again, now. He’s been complaining about how shitty Mike’s apartment is. I offered to pay for a better one, but Mike is stubborn that way and he won’t take the money.”

“I hate to have to say this, but I’m going to have to investigate Mike. If this is about getting Jake away from you, that makes Mike a prime suspect.”

Leigh rolled her eyes. “Mike’s a sweetheart. He would never hurt me.”

“Nevertheless, I can’t just ignore a potential lead, can I? At the very least, Mike might be able to give me some valuable clues that could lead me to whoever is threatening you.”

“If he had any idea as to that, he would have gone to the police already, I can guarantee that.”

“Sometimes people don’t know that what they know might be helpful. It could be a tiny tidbit of information that he thinks is completely innocuous but could crack the case wide open.”

“You’re much more than a bodyguard, you know. You’re more like a bodyguard and a private detective rolled into one.”

Morgan grinned. “That’s one of the reasons I joined Gray’s firm in the first place. I like her attitude. Her theory is that there’s no point in guarding someone if you can’t take active steps to end the threat against them, or you’d always at the back and just reacting rather than actually making them safe. She puts all new employees through a course with a couple of private detectives to give us the skills to find whoever wants to hurt our clients.”

“It’s a good theory. I’m sure it’s held many of your clients in good stead.”

“It has. That’s why our reviews are so good.” Morgan couldn’t keep the note of pride out of her voice. She loved working for Gray and took pride her work.

“Well, you can talk to Mike, but don’t count on him being able to give you anything useful. Jake, you can come in now,” Leigh called as Morgan finished pulling on her clothes.

The door opened and Jake stepped back into the room. “What’s this I hear about questioning Mike?”

“Listen to this, Jake. I found this in your junk mail. ‘Soon Leigh will no longer be a problem, and we can be together, my love.’ Does that sound like anyone you know?”

Jake paled and quickly sat down on the edge of the bed. “Absolutely not! I would never associate with anyone who would threaten Leigh.”

“Sometimes, people can fool you. They may seem alright in public, but you only find out much later that in private is a different story.”

“We know all about that,” Leigh said sadly. “My mother doesn’t generally go on her mad homophobic rants in public—she knows how unpopular that would make her—but when we’re alone… it hurts to hear, sometimes.”
