They all exchanged fingerless-gloved high fives while Bliss glowed with pride.
After Carly and Conor left, for a long time Bliss and Granger did their favorite new thing, which was simply staring at the squishy faces of their newborns like two grownup goofy mush balls.
“We can do this, right?” she whispered.
“We got this far. Yeah, we can do this.” The absolute confidence in his voice relaxed her. “By the way, I did some research and drew up a list of names.”
“Really? I was thinking the perfect names would pop into our minds at the right moment.”
They looked at each other, and burst out laughing. Both babies opened their eyes and gurgled.
“Get used to it, podlings,” Bliss murmured to them. “If nothing else, we can promise you lots of laughter.”
“Laughter, safety, stability. And the big one. Love.” Granger swung his gaze from the babies to her, and as always, everything else disappeared while that deep, vibrant connection arced between them.
Well, almost everything else. Two tiny babies had something to say about that, very loudly and expressively.
And Bliss realized that for the first time in her life, she was actually living up to her name. This…was bliss.
