She laughed and then looked toward the vet’s. “I’ve got to go and get lunch.”

“Then I’ll ride with you. Ass-face has already cost us so much time. I’m not going to let him steal another minute.”

Before Halloween night, she and Lidia had spent a great deal of time together, including lunch breaks. Sean was the first guy to have ever gotten between them, and Aria knew it was her fault. She had believed his lies, and that was all on her, not Lidia.

Lidia climbed into the passenger seat of Aria’s car and hummed to herself as she put on the seat belt.

“So, MC guy. Is he hot in bed?”

“Lidia, come on, I’m not going to tell you that.”

“Why not?” Lidia asked. “You didn’t have sex until now, and don’t even pretend you did, we both know you didn’t. This is a big deal. You had sex with a guy and not just any guy, but Grant Reynolds.”

“Why does that matter?” Aria asked.

“You do know that Grant has a reputation around town, right?” Lidia asked.

“Yeah, I know.” She cringed just thinking about it.

“Do you?”

She turned to Lidia and then looked ahead of her as she pulled out of the parking lot. “Yeah, I know. I know he’s been around. A lot of women have used him or whatever.”

“He’s flighty,” Lidia said. “From what I heard, he bangs and runs.”

“What?”

“Grant is never there for round two, nor is he there long enough to say if it’s good enough. He’s a quick fuck master,” Lidia said.

“Oh.”

“Did he leave you?” Lidia asked.

“No.” Grant hadn’t just screwed her and left. He’d stayed. He even was tender with her. Cleaning up the evidence that he had been her first. She had told him not to do it, but he’d run her a bath and cleaned up the bedroom.

They then had round two and three. She had woken up with him. They had sex on her dining room table, then after she insisted on cleaning it, they had eaten breakfast together.

“Oh, my, this is unheard of,” Lidia said. “Grant never stays around but he did with you.”

“How do you even hear of these things?” she asked.

Lidia chuckled. “I have my ways, baby. I have my ways of hearing everything.” She clapped her hands. “This is so good. Tell me more.”

“He has agreed to go to Thanksgiving dinner with me. Michael has booked everyone at a restaurant. That should be interesting.”

“Oh, my God, I cannot wait for this. Can I come?” Lidia asked.

“You hate my family dinners.”

“I know, but I heard what happened with Grant and Sean. He called you all kinds of names and he punched him. I want to see the look on your mom’s face as she goes against Grant. Can you imagine it?” Lidia chuckled. “I want to see that old bag get what’s coming to her. I bet Isabella did it on purpose.”

Aria frowned as she pulled up to the diner. “What do you mean?”

“Come on. Your sister gets so angry with your mother. I’m sure you’ve seen it.”

She thought about it and Lidia rolled her eyes. “Fine, clearly not. You leave the table. When I’ve been at your family’s house before, Isabella has told her to stop, to leave you alone. Even your dad has. They have your back, Aria. They do.”

She found that hard to believe. “It’s fine. My mom cares in her own way.”
