She didn’t waste any time dumping her bag on the floor and rushing upstairs to the bathroom. She turned on the faucet, stripped off her clothes, and then stepped beneath the hot water. Slowly, she stopped shaking and the heat was a welcoming relief. Tilting her head back, she breathed a sigh of relief. It felt so good.

She had worked up a sweat in the gym. Her body felt good. This was an odd feeling for her. She wasn’t used to feeling so … she couldn’t even think of what it felt like. Yes, she was tired, but she felt happy.

She took time to wash her hair, lathering the soap into her scalp, before rinsing it out. By the end of her shower, she felt giddy, happy, and exhilarated. It was a good workout at the gym.

She realized she was hungry. Wrapping her body in a bathrobe and her hair in a towel, she headed downstairs toward the kitchen. She’d already gone through the necessary transition in her kitchen. There were a lot of vegetables in the fridge. Right now, she could use a burger, but she frowned. No. No burger. No processed foods. She was going to do this the right way.

Just as she was about to grab some vegetables out of the fridge, her doorbell rang. She was tempted to ignore it, but then it rang again. Closing the fridge, she walked toward the door, checking the peephole to see who was on the other side. It was Grant.

She opened the door with a frown and gritted her teeth as a gust of wind swept through. Opening the door wider, Grant stepped forward, and then a large German shepherd.

“You have a dog.”

“Yes, I have a dog. Don’t you remember?”

“Oh, right, Wanda, yes, of course,” she said.

“You don’t mind?”

“No, of course not.”

Wanda stared at her and Aria didn’t know if she should reach out and pet the giant dog, but instead she turned to Grant.

“What are you doing here?”

“Our date,” he said.

“Grant, it’s late and I’m tired. You didn’t show up at the gym. We don’t need to go on this date.”

“I want to.”

“Seriously. I’m about to cook myself something. You … this…” What did she say to him that would make him realize she didn’t hold him to anything?

He stepped toward her. “I was doing some shit and time ran away from me, but I want this date.”

“Grant, you’re confusing me. You really are.” She rubbed at her temple. “I don’t know anything about you.”

He shrugged. “Isn’t that the whole point of dating?”

She pressed her lips together and then glanced down at herself. “I’m not exactly dressed for date night.”

He took a step toward her and wrapped an arm around her waist. “You don’t need to be dressed like anything. You’re beautiful, Aria. Let me cook.”

She was so tempted. Would it be wrong to give in? Wanda chose that moment to step up toward her and whimper.

Grant chuckled. “Even Wanda wants to stay. Let me cook for you. You’ve gotten out of the shower, and trust me, I’m having a hard time even thinking about you stepping out of that shower all hot and wet.” He growled.

There were times Grant seemed like two different people.

“Fine. Fine.”

Grant walked straight ahead, going toward her kitchen. Wanda didn’t move.

Aria couldn’t help but smile and then crouched down to pet the dog. “He can’t be so bad with how much he loves you guys, can he?”

She stared into Wanda’s eyes, and an instant hit of love bloomed within her chest. This dog was so beautiful.
