“This about the patch? Your woman?”

Grant’s hands clenched into fists and he’d been near the door, but now he spun around to face Pat. “What the fuck did you say?”

“I want to know why you’ve got nothing to say to me. We’ve got no bad blood between us.”

“No bad blood? You seem to want to take everything from me!” He slammed his palm flat against his chest. “You want to be Bull’s brother, his VP. My woman’s man, is that it?”

Pat smirked and shook his head. “You are way too emotional.”

Grant swung, hitting his fist to Pat’s face. The man barely moved.

He touched his face, next to his mouth, and came back with blood on a couple of fingers. “Now, I’m going to allow you to have that one, because clearly, you’re going through some fucked-up shit. I’ve also heard that your body is covered in scars. I remember your old man. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that he fucked your head up good.”

Pat rarely spoke. He was known for being quiet. It would seem Grant had opened a dam.

“But you’ve got to learn to own up to your mistakes. You fucked up with Aria, not me. I’m not the one who pretended to not fuck her sister. You did. I’m not the one who’s so fucking flighty he doesn’t even stick to a steady job, for fuck’s sake.” Pat shook his head. “Bull loves you.”

“Oh, fuck off.” Grant had heard enough.

“What makes you think he doesn’t?” Pat asked. “You’re still around. You’ve challenged him enough times. Pissed him off. Come on, Grant, think. Time and time again, he lets you get away with shit. You’re rarely at the shop. You’re unreliable for anything but club stuff. Bull will always have your back here. You know that.”

Grant had heard enough.

“And next time you throw a punch at me, make sure it knocks me clean out, because I won’t be responsible for what happens next,” Pat said.

The threat was real.

Heading out of the kitchen, he rounded the parking lot and went to his bike. Climbing onto the machine, he straddled the beast, and then headed his way into town.

It was nearing lunchtime, which meant Lidia was at the diner, so it wouldn’t take her long to get to the veterinary practice.

Aria had once told him that Lidia was her closest friend. Since they were kids, they had shared a lot together. Not much had changed after they left high school, much to her mother’s annoyance. Lidia was another person Joan Taylor couldn’t stand. He figured it had to do with the fact that Lidia helped Aria escape the nastiness of her mother’s words.

Heading through the main town, he went straight to the veterinary practice and saw Lidia’s car already parked in the main spot. Andy and Phil’s cars were there and he saw several customers inside.

Parking his bike, he climbed off, and then rounded the building to find Lidia waiting.

She turned to look at him and then he saw the instant change. Before he got a chance to say anything, she walked right up to him and slapped him across the face.

“You fucking asshole. I cannot believe you did that to Aria. Do you have any idea how she feels about you?” She went to slap him again but he caught her wrist, stopping her from connecting with his face.

“Enough,” he said.

“Don’t you tell me enough. I’ll have enough when I’m damn well good and ready.” She drew her hand back and was about to slap him again, but he captured her wrist before she made contact.

“I get it, you’re pissed at me. I do. Trust me, you think I don’t feel it.”

“Do you even feel anything?” Lidia asked. “I should have known it. That you were playing some kind of game with my best friend. What was it, some kind of bet? Is that what you had planned?”

“It was no fucking game! I fucking love Aria. She is … everything.” He’d never been good with words. Grant was used to hurting people and messing shit up, not talking about his feelings.

“Wait, what?”

He let her go and took a step back. “I love her, okay? I love her so fucking much it hurts to see her this way. I hate that she thinks I don’t, that I … ugh. None of this was a game. Someone sent her a fucked-up video and yes, I was like that in the past, but not anymore. That was all lies. I lied a lot. I even hurt my brother’s woman because of it. Trust me, I do not feel and I have never felt that way.”

“Have you seen the video?” Lidia asked.

“Yes, have you?”
