Cyn frowned. “She lost two men in her life. She nearly got killed. That’s a lot to keep her up at night.”

Max nodded. “Wait. How did you know she was here?”

Hunt gave him an amused look. “It runs in the family.”

“What?”

“You find the one you want and hold on with everything you are,” Cyn said, kissing Hunt on the head.

Hunt hooked his arm around Cyn’s waist and pulled her close. “Damn right. I’m never letting you go.”

Kenna walked into the kitchen, stopped short, and gasped. “Um. Helloeveryone.” She took them all in, but her gaze came right back to Max.

“Hey, sweetheart, I poured you some coffee.” He held the mug out to her.

She hesitated for a moment, then came further into the room and took the mug, her eyes locked on Lana in his arms. Her gaze met his again. “You and she make a very sweet picture.”

“Anytime you want to do this, I’m in,” he said, not caring that all eyes were on him now.

Kenna rolled with it. “I’ll let you know.” She ducked her head to hide her blush, then glanced at everyone in the room. She turned to the one person she didn’t know. “You’re Hunt’s Cyn.”

“I am.” Cyn beamed with happiness.

“Shelby showed me wedding photos. You two looked so happy.”

“We are.” Cyn kissed Hunt’s head, then turned back to Kenna. “I would love to get my hands on your hair.”

Kenna grabbed a chunk of the long blond locks. “Really? Why?”

“I’m a hairdresser, and you’ve got amazing hair. The color. It’s like golden wheat. I have clients who would kill for that color.”

Kenna laughed. “It could use some attention. I haven’t had it cut since...” Her head slowly turned to Max.

He knew exactly what she was thinking. “Before we broke up.” He loved her long hair. He’d always told her to just leave it alone, let it grow. He used to slide his fingers through it all the time. He couldn’t wait to do it again.

“Yeah.” Kenna ran her hand through the long strands. “I never really thought about it.”

“It’s beautiful, sweetheart. Short, long, somewhere in between, I don’t care as long as you’re happy.”

Cyn shrugged. “Whenever you feel like it, just come to my shop and I’ll take good care of you.”

“Mostly she wants to get all the details about us,” Max supplied. “I’m kind of surprised Chase and Shelby aren’t here, too, though they saw you at the hospital.”

“They’re on their way.” Hunt smirked.

Max chuckled under his breath. “Of course they are.”

And right on cue, the front door opened and closed. A moment later, Chase and Shelby walked in with Eliza.

“Unc!” Eliza yelled holding her hands out to him.

Chase set her on the floor and she ran to him and wrapped her arms around his legs.

Max put his free hand on her back. “Morning, sweet girl. Want to meet my friend Kenna?”

Eliza looked up at him and nodded, then turned to Kenna. “Hi.”

Kenna squatted to Eliza’s level and held out her hand. “Hello.”
