“You’re going to be a beautiful bride,” her father gushed, a tear in his eye.

“I can’t wait to start planning,” her mom said, looking to Shelby and Cyn for support in that effort.

“We’re in,” Shelby assured her.

Cyn beamed. “I’ll do your hair. Some kind of twist in the back to set off your beautiful face.”

She beamed at all of them. “I can’t wait.”

Max broke away from his brothers’ and father’s congratulations and hooked his arm over her shoulders. “Are you happy?”

“Ecstatic.”

“I’m sorry your brother wasn’t here.”

“Me, too.” She looked at everyone who took the time on a Monday to come here to celebrate with them. “But this is special. This is our family.”

“And there will be more to come. More babies. More celebrations. More of everything. And we’ll do it all together.” Max kissed her. This one soft and promising and filled with love.

He kissed her the same way on their wedding day.

And every day after that.

Including the day their daughter, Kylie, was born, nine months after the I do’s.
