She looked over at her Dom. Even among the group, his chair was pushed back slightly as though he constantly needed to put some distance between him and everyone around him. Even here he seemed a bit alone.

Had he pushed his family away? Had he been so worried about being a burden that he shoved them all away?

Would he even let her help him?

“I’m worried he’s not going to let me in,” she said quietly.

Macon shook his head. “You’re already in more than I would have thought possible. He’s living with you. He’s letting you see a side of him no one else does. He might not be asking for help yet, but I think that might come naturally now that he’s let down his guard.”

“Let down his guard?”

“Well, we think the reason he so rarely invited anyone over to his place was that he didn’t want anyone to see his legs or to see him using his chair,” Ally explained. “Like Macon used to be all freaked out about using crutches, but obviously he has to. He’s got to take a shower. Though mostly he lets me take care of him there now.”

“That’s because you know exactly how to make sure I’m thoroughly clean, baby.” He winked down at his wife before looking back to Tiffany. “But seriously, he’s got to give his legs time to breathe, give them a break. He’s got to have a hard time in the shower. Honestly, I have no idea how he deals with all that on his own. I mean he’s adapted and everything, but having a partner to help him has to make his life easier.”

A hollow feeling opened in the center of her chest. “I don’t help him with anything. Nothing like that.”

Deena put a hand on her arm. “It’s okay. The relationship is brand new. The fact that he let you see him at all is a big step in the right direction.”

“Are you telling me he hasn’t used his chair the entire time you two have been in that apartment?” Macon asked.

She wished she’d never started down this road. “I’m saying that he hasn’t let me see anything at all and no, as far as I can tell he’s not using his chair. I don’t know that he has one in the apartment. Is he putting himself through pain so I won’t see him like that?”

Had she done that to him?

“It sounds like he’s being a stubborn bastard,” Macon replied. “But as long as he’s healthy I wouldn’t try to argue with him. He’s an adult and treating him like a child who needs tending will only alienate him further. I should know. Just let the relationship take a natural flow. He’ll come around when he realizes you won’t run at the sight of his legs. I think someone did and it’s stuck with him.”

Tiffany watched as Kori walked back over with Gina at her side.

Gina immediately frowned as she looked over at the Doms. “I should go join them. Milo doesn’t like to be overwhelmed.”

“Or you should join them because you belong there.” Tiffany had watched the woman all night. Sometimes people tried to shove themselves into places they didn’t fit, places and roles that didn’t suit them. They did it for a lot of different reasons. Because society saw them in that place. Because it took bravery to change a relationship even for the better. Because it was easier to stay in one place.

“What does that mean?” Gina asked, her tone proving Tiffany’s point.

Kori’s lips turned up in a knowing smile. “Yeah, I was going to suggest that, too. I thought I’d go find Vince and Chris and maybe turn some of this over to them.”

Thank god she wasn’t the only one to figure it out. She turned to Gina, who needed to start making some of these decisions. “Do you think Milo would be more comfortable around male submissives?”

Gina’s jaw dropped a bit and she took her time, the answer slowly dawning. “Holy shit. I’m the Domme. He’s the sub.”

Tiffany couldn’t help but smile at her. “I’m sure he’s the boss at work, but I would put money on the fact that you run everything personal. You’re likely the one who keeps the relationship going. You’re the one who forces him to relax. You’re the one who makes the decisions about sex, aren’t you?”

“I thought he was losing interest.” She didn’t take her eyes off Milo. “We’ve been together for so long.”

Tiffany stood and walked to the woman who in a few weeks she would be showing deference to when they were in the dungeon. “I would bet you initiated sex with him the first time.”

“Almost all the times,” Gina admitted.

“Does that bother you?” Kori asked.

Gina waved it off. “Not until I watch some movie that points out how wrong it is. I’m not supposed to be the aggressive one.”

Thank god for Sanctum. “They’re wrong. You get to be whoever you are here. When you accept who you are here, you’ll find it easier to be honest in real life. You’ve been looking for a way to fix something that feels broken, right?”

Gina’s cheeks turned a nice shade of pink. “I love him, but lately I feel like I’m not giving him what he needs.”

Spoken like a Domme. “Is that why you brought in Honey? You thought you could spice things up by showing him how kinky you can be?”
