“Good. There’s plenty more where that came from.”

“And I’ll take it any time you’re willing to give it to me.”

I stood up in front of Zac with plans to sit down beside him but before I could, he hugged me around the waist and rested his head against my breasts. While he was quiet and breathing his warm breath on my skin, I ran my fingers through his hair while thinking about our evening together. It was perfect in every way. It was adventurous, stylish, playful, sexy, risky, fun, arousing, gratifying—and also bonding. Every time that I thought I couldn’t feel any closer to Zac than I already was, he proved me wrong, and he did it just by being himself. Just by loving me the way that he did.

“Which song is this one of Fleetwood Mac’s?” he asked, keeping his head right where he had it.

The song had just started playing and the timing of it couldn’t have been any better being that it came on during this tender moment with Zac.

“It’s ‘Sara.’”

“That’s right.”

“It was my mom’s favorite and it’s mine, too, out of all the songs that Stevie Nicks has written.”

“Why is it your favorite?”

“Because of the first three lines.”

“Refresh my memory. It’s a little fuzzy at the moment because of what you did to me.”

I chuckled. “Okay. They are: ‘Wait a minute, baby. Stay with me a while. Said you’d give me light but you never told me about the fire.’”

“Yeah, I remember them now. They’re really good.”

“I’ve loved those lyrics for as long as I can remember and I’ve always tried imagining what it’d feel like to burn inside for someone. Now, because of you, I know what it feels like.”

Zac lifted his head off my chest and looked up at me. “Same here,” he whispered.

I held his face in my hands while running my thumbs across his stubbled jawline. “My mom loved that song because of those three lines too, and also because it reminded her of my dad. She even painted the lyrics onto a big canvas with a crescent moon and stars sprinkled around them and hung that painting in her and my dad’s bedroom. It’s still there.”

“I wish I could’ve met your mom,” Zac said.

“So do I. She would’ve loved you.”

“I know I would’ve loved her too. She and her daughter seem to be just alike.”

I smiled. “My dad often reminds me of that.”

“You also look like your mom. Everything except for your eye color. I saw the picture of her and your dad in your living room.”

“Yeah, her eyes were aqua-blue and mine are identical to my dad’s. They’re gray-blue or whatever you wanna call it.”

“They’re what I callmoody blue. Your eyes say so much, Stevie. Whichever emotion that you happen to be feeling speaks directly through them. I’ve seen tranquil waters in them, soft waves, and I’ve also seen a tempest.”

“And I get that from my mom.”

Zac grew quiet and just kept staring at me.

“I love you,” he finally said.

“I love you.”

“I think it’s time for me to take care of your needs now. If you still want me to. You may be too tired, though,” he said.

“Give me your hand.” Zac did as I said, and then I placed his hand between my legs. “Do you feel that?”

He smiled. “Yes.”
