“Your hair looks really nice today too.”

“Thank you again. I threw together this low, messy bun last minute this morning but it isn’t holding up very well. See? It’s already loosening,” I said, tugging at some of the hair that’d fallen around my face.

“Yeah, well, it still looks nice. I like seeing your hair falling around your face like that, so if you don’t mind, leave it like it is.”

I chuckled. “Okay. Anything else?”

“Yes. I have a question for you.”

“What do you wanna know?”

“Do you always go bare-legged in your professional attire? I mean, I can see why you would with those tan legs of yours. You don’t need to wear pantyhose.”

“Yes, I always go bare-legged until Labor Day arrives, and then my pantyhose and I regularly spar all the way through autumn and winter until Easter gets here. That’s when I start going without them again. I can’t stand how restrictive they are.”

“So what are you wearing underneath your skirt now?”

I looked up at the ceiling, chuckling again. Then I looked back at Zac and shook my finger at him. “You shouldn’t be asking me a question like that,” I said.

“Please answer me.”

I paused to weigh whether or not I should tell the tall, handsome and still unshaven attorney standing in front of me, who’d kissed me several times yesterday and had also agreed to the two of us having an affair, that I wasn’t wearing anything underneath my skirt. Not even a slip. Then I decided to tell him just that.

“Nothing,” I said.

“Nothing?”

“No.”

“No panties?”

“I never wear them.”

Zac looked down at the front of my skirt, sighed, and then met my gaze again. “Well… What I’m imagining at the moment is definitely gonna help get me through the rest of this day.”

“Glad to be of assistance. Is there anything else that I can do for you?” I asked, grinning.

“Yes—there is.”

“And what is it?”

The playful look in Zac’s eyes had grown serious. “Be my lover.”

“Zac…”

“I know this thing between us is complicated and has the potential to cause a lot of pain but selfishly, I want you. Stevie, you walked into my life like you’ve always been part of it and everything is so easy with you. Everything fits, everything flows and feels right.”

“But…”

“You don’t have to give me an answer right this second. Just think about everything. Okay?”

“We talked about all of this on the phone last night.”

“I know we did. But what you said to me is contradicting what’s showing in your eyes this morning. They’re shining and I can see how much you want me. How much you wantthis. So please think about what I’m asking of you. Will you do that for me?”

I took a deep breath and then slowly nodded yes.

“Thank you. I hope you have a good day, Sinclair.”
