“Yes, you do.”

Stevie glanced around the cabin. “I don’t think there’s enough time.”

“There is if you hurry.”

“Okay.”

I stood up to move out of Stevie’s way and while she was stepping past me, she brushed the back of her hand across the front of my shorts. It was her way of letting me know that she’d seen how aroused I was from getting her off. My erection was going away but I still had a good-size bulge that I knew Stevie’s eyes wouldn’t miss.

As soon as she sat back down beside me, we both buckled up. Although I’d given Stevie quite a bit of nerve relief, I wasn’t sure if it was enough to get her through takeoff. But as the plane lifted into the air, she was calm as ever. She was smiling at me, too, while holding my hand. We were finally on our way to paradise. We were really doing this.

On the flight, Stevie asked me where we were staying in Destin, but I wouldn’t tell her. I wanted it to be a total surprise and knew she was going to love the private beach house that I’d rented. It was really nice and spacious and sat so close to the ocean that I knew if Stevie and I slept with the patio doors open in the master bedroom we’d be able to smell the salty air and feel the breeze.

After landing at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport, we picked up our luggage and then our rental car and headed to the beach house. As I was pulling into the driveway, Stevie gasped.

“Oh—my—God. Zac! This beach house is huge!”

“I know. I wanted lots of room for you and me and also lots of privacy. We can do anything we want within the walls of this place and also outside of them.”

After lowering the garage door, we walked into the rental. I was already familiar with the layout from all the online pictures I’d studied, so I led Stevie into the open living and dining area first. Like the rest of this beach house, the color palette here was aqua, white, and a soft sandy color. Perfect for the beautiful mermaid that I was currently watching walk around while looking at everything in complete silence.

When she made it over to the back patio doors, she pushed them open and went outside, then she gazed out at the ocean. I walked up behind her, wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her cheek.

“Are you home now?” I asked.

“Yes, I am. Thank you so much for doing all of this, Zac.”

“It’s my pleasure. I want you to be happy.”

“I would be happy if we stayed in a tent on the beach all week because I would be with you.”

“Same here. But I wanted you to have the best for this first trip of ours. I wanted it to be one for the books—one that you’ll never forget.”

Stevie looked over her shoulder at me. “I will never forget this trip with you or anything else that we’ve done together. I love you so much.”

“I love you too. Now, are you ready to see the rest of this place?”

“This amazing place? Yes.”

After covering the beach level and then the second level, we began unpacking our luggage. While hanging up our clothes together in the closet, placing our shoes side by side, putting our undergarments and swimsuits together in the dresser drawers, and organizing our toiletries in the bathroom, Stevie and I kept glancing at each other and smiling. What we were doing felt so right. It felt natural like we were supposed to be doing this and should’ve been doing this a long time ago in a home that we shared.

When we were done with all the unpacking, I asked Stevie what she wanted to do next.

“Go swim in the ocean with you,” she said, looking straight at me and never more serious.

Although this property included a swimming pool and also a hot tub, I wasn’t surprised that Stevie had paid no attention to them. She would later, when nighttime arrived, but for now she needed to be in the warm, salty water of the Gulf of Mexico, and she wanted me with her too.

We changed into our swimsuits and then started making our way to the shoreline, which was only about fifty yards away from our beach house. When Stevie took off running, I just watched her go. I’d never seen her come more alive than she was being here. The ocean really was her home.

When she reached the water, she waded in up to her knees and lifted her arms toward the sky, then leaned her head back. Moments later, she turned around and looked at me. I’d just made it to the shoreline and was still videoing my lover with my cellphone.

“Come on,” she said, smiling from cheek to cheek.

I tossed our two towels and my phone onto the sand and then met Stevie where she was. After grabbing hands, the two of us walked further out into the water and then dove in. It was clear and as blue as the sky above us.

I didn’t know how far we swam but when we stopped, I tried to stand up and was still able to. My shoulders were above the water and my feet were anchored in the sand while Stevie treaded water in front of me.

“Doesn’t this feel so good?” she asked.
