“We sure can and after that, you’re going swimming with me.”
“Anything else?”
“There is one more thing, but it’s something that I’m gonna dotoyou.”
I side-eyed Stevie, unsure of where she was going with this conversation. “Should I be concerned?”
“No. Not at all.”
“Then what are you gonna dotome?”
“You just gave me what I needed and later this evening, I’m gonna do the same for you. I’m gonna make love to you while we’re in my pool. I needed you hard and fast this time and you still need me slow and easy. And you know I can do that well.”
“Yes, I do know.”
“This mermaid is gonna pull you under to her bed again and give you her treasure trove.”
“And I can hardly wait.”

“DO YOU KNOWwhat today is?” Zac asked me.
It was Saturday morning, we’d been awake for about five minutes and we were still tangled up with each other in my bed.
“September twenty-second, the first day of autumn. Time to put out all my Halloween decorations, plant some mums and buy some candy corn to munch on.”
“Besides that,” Zac chuckled.
“Um, there’s not anything else.”
“Sure there is. It was eight weeks ago today that I saw you for the first time.”
I smiled. “And I saw you for the first time.”
“But there’s more that I’ve kept up with. Wanna hear it?”
“Yes.”
“It was fifty days ago that we officially met, forty-one days since our first kiss, forty days since we had sex the first time, forty days since we fell asleep in each other’s arms the first time, and thirty-eight days since we said I love you to each other the first time. And I did not mean to make you cry, Stevie,” Zac said, hugging me even tighter.
I buried my face in his chest for a few seconds then looked back up and smiled at him again through tears. Happy and grateful tears.
“You are so sentimental,” I said.
“About some things, and you are definitely one of them.”
“Has it really only been eight weeks since we saw each other on the running trail that first time?”
“Yes.”
“It feels like it’s been so much longer than that, and I mean it in such a wonderful way because our little bit of time together has been so wonderful.”
