He was wearing a pair of pajama pants and no shirt. His hair was disheveled and his eyes looked tired, but he was smiling.

“Yeah, you did. Glad I didn’t take your bet,” I said and Stevie started laughing.

“You’re such guys,” she added. “Great party, though, Bash. I had a blast.”

“A good time was had by all and that makes me happy. My God, you have a love bite on you.” Bash reached out and lightly touched the top of Stevie’s shoulder. “Damn, Buchanan. You turned into a vampire last night,” he chuckled.

“I prefer wolf. Surprised you didn’t hear me howling while I had this one in my den.” I glanced over at Stevie and she shoved me on my arm.

“Oh, that was you?” Bash winked, then he waved me off. “How about I cook us some breakfast?”

“I appreciate it, man, but don’t go to all that trouble. We’re about to leave and I’m gonna stop by Whataburger for some taquitos, and then I’m gonna hang out at Stevie’s until noon. Gotta pick up Malcolm then and take him home.”

“I gotcha.”

“Is everyone gone? I didn’t look in the other guest bedrooms.”

“Yeah, everyone went home except for… Well, there’s still one party guest here. He’s passed out in my bed,” Bash said, grinning.

“I don’t need to know who he is.”

“I wouldn’t tell you anyway. I just needed him for last night because I needed a good fuck like you two did.” Bash patted my cheek, kissed Stevie’s, and then started walking toward his kitchen. “I’ve gotta get some coffee. Enjoy the day, my friends.”

He wiggled his fingers over his shoulder at us to tell us goodbye, and then Stevie and I left Bash’s house. On our way back to hers, she asked me about my best friend’s past. She wanted to know if he’d ever had a serious partner.

“Yes, he did. They were together for five years, then they split up,” I said.

“What caused it?”

“Bash’s partner, Logan, was seeing someone else and Bash found out.”

Stevie sighed. “That breaks my heart for him. He’s such a great person.”

“I know.”

“Has he tried dating anyone since then?”

“Nothing serious. Just like what you saw back there at his house. He’ll occasionally hook up with someone.”

“Please tell me that he’s careful about doing that.”

“Careful in which way?”

“Two ways. Does he know the people he hooks up with and does he use protection?”

“Yes and yes.”

“Good. It is a crazy world and I’d hate for something to happen to Bash.”

“Really, don’t worry. He takes all precautions when it comes to his lifestyle.”

“I wish he could find someone worth loving and spending his life with.”

“He does too, but he’s not worried about it. He has the attitude that if it happens, then it happens. In the meantime, he’s hellbent on enjoying life to the fullest.”

“That’s obvious. Bash is such an inspiration.”

“And you’re mine,” I said, then kissed Stevie’s hand. “I’ll never forget last night with you. It was amazing.”
