“You saw the vapour dragon in the hotel room. There is also one my size with sinew and claws. Then the larger one, which you have seen.” He was talking nervously and was fairly sure that the black vehicle that had shot past was Benjiro’s. “I agreed to the second alpha because Minoru made the point that someone in her life needs to be capable of offering her affection and acceptance. Being rejected by her mate could quite possibly kill her.”
“That’s why the omegas are usually arranged with packs?”
“Yes. With the links sharing energy, the multiples keep the omega alive longer if one of her alphas or betas passes on.”
“So, betas can be included in the arrangement?”
“Via an alpha. You would have been linked to us.”
“Why are you saying it like it is impossible now?” Taio muttered.
“Are you going to become friends with Olly? Grovel? Ask for forgiveness every day until she grants it?”
He turned off the highway and toward Minoru’s address.
“If it lets me stay with you and allows me to find a way to make things up to her, I might. I am still grappling with the issues I have created.”
“You are willing to work on it?”
“I am.”
“Good, because this is all about her. If she says no, you will go.”
“I thought that was the prerogative of the omega.”
“She’s my mate. If she can breed a child with my power level, she is my omega. From what I have been hearing, it isn’t just possible; it is happening all over this area.”
“Others?”
“Her twin is the bride of the kijin. Minoru might show you his other face. That might help you understand a little faster.”
Taio nodded and shifted.
“What are you doing?”
“Flexing my knees and getting ready to bow.”
Feng nodded. “Yeah, all day, every day if necessary.”
“Right. I wish I had known about all of this before.”
“It has happened recently and isn’t on the news.” He inhaled. “Now, let’s see if she will take us back with Benjiro as the primary carer for her.”

Olly was playing with Jiji when Nari came through and said, “Miss, there is a visitor.”
Polly was going to get up.
“Miss Olly.”
Olly handed the adolescent kitten to her sister and got to her feet, walking to the front room where the guest had been tucked.
“Oh.”
The thickly muscled man looked up and smiled. “Hello, Miss Olly. Minoru has interviewed me and found me suitable, so I am here to be assessed by you to be your caretaking alpha as your primary has dropped the ball.”
