Never one to back down from a challenge, I cupped the front of his pants. “You wouldn’t dare.” His eyes rounded and he swallowed.

“Now, how do you like that?” I hissed between my teeth.

Bending his head forward, he whispered. “The thing is Grace,” his breath tickled my ears and tiny goosebumps rose on my arms. “I like it rough.”

Oh my god!

With my eyes still bugging out, he grabbed my arm and pulled me into the car.

I looked out the window, my hand still in Luke’s, and tried to remember the last time I’d boarded a plane. My mom always made me renew my passport should I ever need to leave the country unexpectedly. I never understood her reasons, but she told me one could never be too prepared. I guess I got my Type A personality from her.

The car pulled up to the plane. The sun peeked through the early morning sky and the wind picked up as I climbed out of the car.

My short hair whipped around my face as Luke led me up the steps onto the private plane; I’d never been inside one. But not wanting to seem unsophisticated, I played it cool.

I tried not to let the white leather upholstery or spotless black furniture impress me. Nor the two flight attendants who promptly served me a glass of wine and two pillows as soon as I sat down.

Luke wiped a hand over his mouth, but he couldn’t hide his eyes from the laughter he was suppressing.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he said and cleared his throat.

“Obviously, something amuses you. What is it?”

“You can show some emotion, you know. I won’t judge you for it.”

My eyes widened and I quickly recovered.

He laughed out loud this time. “That’s what I mean.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Do you remember when we were twelve and we watched that scary movie in your apartment when your mom was at work? You always left to grab us something to eat or drink whenever the sinister music came on.” He grabbed my hand and interlaced our fingers. “You don’t have to hide your true feelings from me, Grace.”

My heart jumped, and I couldn’t look away from his gaze. It felt as though he saw behind the curtain I put up for the world.

I inhaled a deep breath and when I exhaled, I blurted out, “Your plane is fucking awesome.”

Luke fell forward, chuckling.

After straightening in his chair, he wiped his eyes. He’d laughed so hard he had cried. “It is fucking awesome, isn’t it?”

I nodded and sipped my wine.

“Do you want to watch a movie?” he asked.

“Sounds good.”

After pressing a button on a remote, two panels slid away from each other, revealing a television screen. The movie Scream came on and I smiled into Luke’s shoulder. He put his arm over me and I snuggled into his embrace.

“Grace, it’s time to get up.” Luke’s voice sounded far away, yet I could feel him gently shake me. I opened my eyes and saw a flight attendant in front of me.

“Ma’am, please buckle your seatbelt. The pilot is about to start our descent.”

I straightened in my chair and buckled my belt. As I looked out the window, the French Alps caught my eye. My goodness, I was in France.
