I need her to belong to me. Completely.

But why?

It’s not just her innocence. I’ve never cared about that shit before. No, my lust for Avery is primal. Some elemental part of me demanding that I claim her as my own, as if there’s something inside her that I recognize.

So maybe Becca is right, and Avery is hiding more than meets the eye. Maybe that’s what’s calling to me.

After all, I know plenty about darkness and secrets. About hiding your true, twisted nature in plain sight.

I know what it is to masquerade as a regular person, knowing there’s nothing redeemable in your heart.

I text Leon to dismiss the staff before I get home, and I arrive to find the house empty and dark. I head to my office and pour a glass of the best scotch in the house. I take a long sip, exhaling. I’m wound tight, but it’s not the long day at work that’s making me so tense.

It’s anticipation.

Now, it’s time for Avery’s next lesson.

I hear music faintly playing, some radio station I guess, and I follow the music to the family room, where Avery is playing an old vinyl record from my collection, singing along in perfect tune.

Her voice shivers in the air. Angelic.

My runs hotter as I watch her sing the haunting melody. Her eyes are closed, and she’s lost herself in the music, totally absorbed.

The way she looks when I’m pushing her to the brink of pleasure, about to climax.

Her eyes open suddenly, and she stops suddenly when she sees me.

“Sorry,” she blurts. “I didn’t know you were back.”

“Don’t stop,” I tell her, moving closer.

But she shakes her head. “It’s fine, I was just messing around. Did you get everything settled at the office?”

She looks up at me, her eyes wide and curious. For a moment, I’m tempted to just collapse on that pristine couch I never use, telling her about my day. Pour another drink for her so we can talk for a while. Pull her into my lap and feel that delicious body pressed against me. Relax, just for a moment.

But as soon as the thought enters my mind, I push it back. Sitting. Talking? The idea is unthinkable.

Who the hell do you think you are?

Men like me don’t get the luxury of letting our guard down, not even for a minute. My control has always been my strongest weapon, and there’s no way I can let it slip, not even for this girl with the voice of an angel, and body that could tempt any virtuous man to sin.

But I’m not virtuous. Not even close. And I need to show Avery, I’m not here for chitchat and cuddles.

“We’re going out,” I say instead of answering her question.

“It’s late,” Avery gives me a sleepy smile. “Couldn’t we just stay in, relax? I want to hear about your day.”

The temptation I feel to do just that is proof that I need to change things up.

This is my world. My terms. And I think we both need a reminder just how true that is.

I feel a surge of determination. I know exactly what tonight’s lesson will be. One she’ll never forget.

“Go get dressed,” I order her coolly. “Something that shows you’re mine.”

It might be late, but the night is just beginning.
