“I don’t care about your money,” I say honestly.

He looks at me. “No, I don’t think you do.” Sebastian seems a little surprised. “But what it is you do care about, I haven’t figured out just yet.”

I flush, uncomfortable. If he knew what I was thinking… What I was planning for him…“Well, right now, I care about this kiss story,” I say lightly.

He gives a chuckle. “Well… I had my first kiss when I was twelve years old,” he says, swirling whiskey around his glass. “Katie Pearman. She was my best friend’s stepsister, probably the prettiest girl I’d ever seen back then,” he adds, with a nostalgic look. “I was at my friend’s house during the summer, swimming in the pool, and he went inside to get a drink. While I was alone with Katie, I decided to try some flirting that I’d picked up from a film. I can’t even remember what it was now, but I’m sure it involved some awkward compliments and an attempt to be witty.”

“I can’t imagine you like that,” I say, and it’s the truth. A young, innocent Sebastian Wolfe isn’t easy to picture. He’s so far beyond that now.

“I told you, the life I lead now requires confidence and dominance, but I was still learning to be that person. Anyway, it somehow worked, and I got my first kiss out of the bargain. Or maybe she just took pity on me,” he adds. “Either way, I felt like a king.”

“Did she break your heart?” I ask, teasingly.

He smiles. “Hardly. If you know anything about twelve-year-old boys, you can probably figure out that I was lusting after someone else as soon as it was over.”

“Ah, so you’re the heartbreaker. Always after your next conquest.”

He smiles. “There’s nothing like the thrill of the chase.”

He’s right. Sitting here now with him, I feel a curious sense of power. He thinks he has me all figured out, but he has no idea what’s coming for him.

The hell I’m going to rain down on him, whenever I spy my chance.

“Now it’s my turn to ask a question.” Sebastian announces, giving me a slow, assessing look.

I laugh. “I don’t recall that was our deal.”

He shrugs. “My house. My whiskey. My ten million. Let’s say that I make the rules in this situation.”

I sip my drink and pretend to think about it. “Well, it is good whiskey,” I say, with a flirty smile. “Go ahead.”

I don’t know what Sebastian will ask, and I’m prepared to lie through my teeth, but when his question comes, it’s an easy one.

“Who taught you to play the piano?”

I exhale in relief. “My dad,” I answer honestly. “He loved music and wanted to share it with me. Nothing professional,” I add. “He just liked to jam sometimes.”

“And the singing?” Sebastian asks.

“That’s two questions.” I tease. “Shouldn’t it be my turn to ask another?”

“Think of it as the second part,” he smiles.

I giggle. “I wasn’t never really taughtto sing. I just love doing it. For myself, just for fun.”

“You never wanted to pursue it, as a career?”

“God, no,” I blurt. “I’m not brave enough to sing in front of anyone else. I’m not meant for the spotlight,” I say firmly. “Having everyone staring at me?” I shudder. “No, thank you.”

Sebastian slowly gets up and moves to sit beside me. I catch my breath, unnerved to suddenly have him so close.

“People stare at you even without a spotlight,” he says in a low voice, reaching out to brush hair from my cheek. His fingertips graze my skin, and I shiver from the burning touch. “You’re beautiful. When you walk into a room, everyone watches. I’m sure you have men lined up for you.”

I shake my head, flushing. “No. I never even had a real boyfriend.”

I don’t mean to say that. It just slips out. I know it’s what he wants to hear, but I don’t like that I just revealed that part of myself to him. I feel exposed.

Sure enough, Sebastian’s gaze is fixed on me, more intent than ever. “I find that hard to believe. No boys, back at the farm?”
