Luke: I don’t want to wait till later this week.

Luke: I can suck it up and deal with trivia night if it means seeing my friend.

Luke: Plus, your team is fifty percent my brothers and they don’t know shit.

Luke: If I’m there you stand half a chance.

Cindy: If the categories are song lyrics or baseball statistics.

Luke: Still. What time does it start?

Cindy: Eight. So be there around 7:30.

Luke: I will.

I gotto Rook’s early, but Luke had still beaten me there. He was sitting at the same table his brothers and Steph usually claimed and he had a soda in front of him. He got up to greet me, leaning in for a hug that ended up kind of awkward, as I didn’t really know what he was doing until our fronts were smashed up against each other and one of his hands got kind of tangled in my hair.

“Sorry,” he said.

“It’s fine.” I cleared my throat.

I sat down at the table, across from Luke and ordered a beer from the waitress.

“How were the wedding venues?” he asked.

“Really nice. Well, the last one was nice. The first one was too wedding-mill and the second was too churchy.”

“This is getting a little Goldilocks.”

“I know,” I said with a laugh. “But the third one was perfect. They basically said yes on the spot.”

“Where is it?”

“Farrelly Grove. It used to be the Amberfield.”

“As in where we had our prom?” he scoffed. “That place was so ugly. I mean, the walls were carpeted.”

“I didn’t know you had such an eye for decorating schemes.”

“I don’t. I wouldn’t have remembered it if it wasn’t so ugly.”

“Who’s so ugly?” Carter asked, dropping down next to Luke and grabbing his brother’s drink. He spat it out, right back into the glass. “What the hell?”

“It’s Coca-Cola, asshole. You spat that out like it was poison. What did you think it was?” Luke asked.

“I don’t know. Stout. Maybe a Jack and Coke,” Carter said. “Something a man would actually drink in a bar.”

Luke rolled his eyes and sipped his drink.

“You never answered my question. Who’s ugly?” Carter wondered.

“Notwho, what,” I answered. “We were talking about the Amberfield. That old catering hall where they held our prom. But it’s beautiful now. A new owner bought it and turned it into something amazing called Farrelly Grove. You should see it. I mean, you will see it at the wedding.”

“So they chose it? Like, that’s their venue?” Luke asked.

“Yes. Steph and Maya are getting married at Farrelly Grove.”

“Awesome. When?”
