Dan’s skin smells spicy and salty, an addicting combination. He stays asleep until I reach his hip bones, and even then he doesn’t snap awake. I feel his hand stroking my hair at first, and then my cheek wordlessly. He makes a rumbling noise inhis chest as my lips and tongue slide over his strong, muscled thighs, flexing under my touch, but it isn’t until I gently lick the head of his erect cock for the first time that he quietly moans.

It’s a deep, wholly masculine sound that settles in my bones and makes me shiver. Oh, I really, really liked that noise. I lick him again in exactly the same way and receive the same groan, his fingers burying in my slightly tangled hair.

Still, he doesn’t speak, and it makes the whole thing feel even more intimate. I continue to lick him, eventually taking the entire thick head in my mouth, licking the salty bead of precum off as I do so. Dan hisses between his teeth, hips instinctively thrusting upwards before he gets control of himself. I could almost sigh in relief, knowing that his entire length would be too much for me, but I’m happy to slowly try to take more and more of him into my mouth. Here, his skin is even hotter and softer than everywhere else, and the noises he makes as I lick and suck at him are turning me on more than I thought they would. I can feel his fingers tighten in my hair and his thighs tense when I do something he really likes, so I file away the information for later.

Somehow, Dan gets even harder when I make a satisfied noise with my lips around his manhood.

“Elise…” he breathes, voice strained. “You’ve got to stop, baby, or I’m not going to be able to stay quiet.”

I take that as a challenge, gripping the base of his erection in my hand and stroking him as I continue to suck him off. He strains against me, a shiver running up his spine and a growl building in his throat.

“Fuck, Elise—” he starts, louder than he should, but just then a ringtone comes from somewhere near us. We both look over at the bedside table accusingly, only to see that someone is calling him on his iPhone.

Worse, it’s my brother’s contact picture on the screen. I pull away from Dan quickly, sitting on my ass and tucking my legsunder myself as I watch him sit up shakily and silence the call. Dan lets out a shaky breath and shakes his head.

“This is bad news. He’s probably looking for me. I have to go.” He runs his hands through his hair, clearly stressed. “Shit. What if he went to my room, and I wasn’t there? What if—”

I can’t help but laugh at his stress, and his mouth clicks shut before he glares at me. “You’re a fucking bitch, you know that?”

I laugh again, and with a sigh, he chuckles too, leaning forward to kiss me quickly. “I’ll get a hold of you later, okay? I want to see you.”

“Okay, Dan,” I say quietly, watching him dress, affection blooming in my heart. “I want to see you too.”

As the shower water soaks me, carrying away all the evidence of what Dan and I did last night, he’s still the only thing on my mind. I close my eyes, imagining that he’s here with me, holding me close.

This trip started as a mess, but like two opposed stars caught in each other’s gravitational pull, we came together again, and it’s been even better than I could have imagined. His smile, his kiss, the way he looks when he finishes inside me…

All of it makes my heart race. Every single bit of it. I’m smitten, and as much as I should hate it, I can’t bring myself to.

Feeling happier than I have in weeks, I pull on a short sundress covered in bright yellow sunflowers and go to find breakfast. It’s being served just like it was yesterday on the terrace, and everyone but Lili and Robin are already present. Dan has managed to convince the villa staff to source him some blooming tea, and without even asking, he pours me a cupand holds it out, not even pausing in his conversation with my brother.

I take the clear mug and pluck an orange cranberry scone from the tower of pastries balanced in the center of the table, taking off my oversized sun hat and sitting it on the empty chair next to me, content to listen to the boys talk while I eat. I’m famished, having only angrily picked at dinner last night and then partaking in strenuous physical activities.

“Roxanne is dying to go visit Positano,” Andries announces, looking at Dan. “Her and Lili both. So we’re going to take a boat ride to Positano in the afternoon. Do you want to go?”

Dan sips his tea, looking unconvinced. “…Am I allowed to say no?”

“I’d love to go,” I chime in. “If there’s room, that is.”

Andries looks at me, and there is a hint of apology in his gaze that I suspect has to do with how he acted out last night. “Of course there is. You’re always welcome, El.”

Once I voice my approval, I know Dan will come too, and I love the idea of spending the day with him there. Sure, we’ll be with the other couples, so we can’t be romantic, but like Dan has reminded me time and time again, everyone expects us to be friendly to each other. I can keep my hands to myself because in my heart, I know that he and I are really much more than friends.

“That settles it then I guess.” Dan sighs, before shooting me a glance. “I’ll go tell the captain to prepare the yacht.”

Tucked into a valley on the Amalfi Coast, the city of Positano looks like it was placed right where a giant ax had cut a piece of the land out. The city crawls up the sides of the steep coastline, full of ancient architecture and newer, posh shops that draw the wealthy elite in droves during the summer.

Once just a small fishing village, the oddly shaped town thrives now, and the busy energy of it is apparent as soon as we step off the yacht once it drops us off. There is so much to do and see, but we don’t have any set schedule, which makes the excursion even more exciting.

Our end goal is to make it to the top of the city where we can look down at the unbelievable view of the city, but there are a bunch of other stops I want to make first. I insist on stopping by Antica Sartoria to get my mother a hand-embroidered silk scarf, and the maximalist style appeals to Roxie right away.

There is a bead shop where we stop so I can grab something for my younger sister, Aleida, and even find a stationery store for Lili to peruse. Roxanne stays outside at this one, dragging me to the side of the building with her before pulling a cigarette out of her bag and lighting it up after checking to make sure my brother isn’t nearby.

“Don’t tell Andries. He wants me to quit,” she tells me hastily before taking a drag and blowing the smoke into the air in curling wisps. “We keep a lot of secrets from each other for two girls that supposedly don’t even like each other, huh?”

She offers me a cigarette, but I shake my head. “No thanks. But…times are changing, I guess.” I look her up and down and cross my arms. “Do we still not like each other, Roxanne?”

“I think you’re a snake in the grass,” she admits without hesitation. “But in your line of work I think that’s necessary, so I can’t exactly blame you. Otherwise… you’re growing on me, kid.”
