I perch on the corner of his desk in his office, my bare legs crossed when Karl finally comes in and sits on a leather loveseat, drink in hand.

“It’s nice seeing you in here again, Roxie. Do you remember what we were doing last time you were in my office?”

“Paperwork?” I answer, knowing good and well it was something much more illicit.

“No, I had you bent—”

I cut him off with a snap of my fingers. “No! If you’re going to get weird, I’m leaving. You said you wanted to talk about a business proposition, which is the only reason I followed you here. So talk.”

“You grow less and less fun with age,” he gripes, and I feel an incredible urge to slap him across the face, but I resist, waitingfor him to get on with whatever business offer he has. Thanks to me, Karl had received a significant promotion, which meant his deep pockets had become even deeper. He was one of few clients that could drop sickening amounts of money on a whim, and when that whim happened to be a group of my escorts, my girls and I would profit greatly.

Which is why I let him sulk without laughing in his face, patiently bouncing my foot and watching him. Finally he relents, taking another deep drink and sitting the whiskey glass aside. Now I notice that he seems oddly nervous, which is bizarre. I sell sex for a living, and he’s a repeat customer. What could possibly have him feeling awkward after all this time?

“I need a specific sort of escort for an upcoming dinner, Roxie, and I’m not sure if it’s even something you can help me with.”

I can’t help but raise an eyebrow at his comment. My interest is immediately perked, though. “Try me,” I drawl.

“Here’s the thing. I want an eighteen-year-old…virgin. Not just a naive girl or one that looks eighteen but is actually twenty-five. I want an eighteen-year-old virgin that has never been an escort before.”

His question throws me through a loop, and then another one for good measure. Horrified, I ask, “You're wanting to take her virginity?”

“No. It’s just for a simple dinner, but I do want her to stay overnight with me. I won’t fuck her, I promise, but she has to meet my parameters, or I’m not interested.”

I blow out a shaky breath. “And what she would sleep on? Your couch or something?”

Karl sighs. “No, Roxanne. She’d sleep in bed with me. But that’s all it will be. Sleeping.”

“It makes no sense. If you don’t want to fuck her, why does it matter that she’s a virgin?”

His voice is steely and serious. “I’m a man who knows what he wants, and this is what I want. Can you do it or not?”

The idea of sending a virgin into the clutches of Karl makes me feel ill, especially one that has no idea how to escort, either. I don’t believe for a second he won’t want to fuck the girl, but maybe he’s just trying to make her comfortable for another gig later. Or is he trying to find his new “girlfriend”? Someone he could replace me with? After all, when he was my client, he wouldn’t book any other woman for himself—at least that I’m aware of.

For the first time in so long, I question what I’m doing. All the awful things Andries said about sex work come back to me. His critiques were like little knives in my ears back then, but hearing Karl ask for a virgin makes me see what exactly Andries is opposed to. This kind of debauchery even makes me uncomfortable.

“I want her to sleep back at her home,” I tell him. “You can have a drink with her here at your place, but you’ll definitely need to sign a non-sex agreement for me to even consider this.”

“No problem,” Karl agrees.

“How much are you willing to pay?”

“Seven thousand,” he says matter-of-factly, but I laugh in his face.

“Double.”

He smirks, and I hate knowing he was fine paying that amount all along. I should have asked for more. “Double, then. Do we have a deal?”

“I have to find a girl first, I’m not even sure I can. If I do, I’ll contact you to come and sign the paperwork. I’ve never had a request like this before, so I’ll have to draw a brand new one up.”

“Perfect,” Karl says, and I find his tone oddly slimy. “I have another request for this situation, but it isn’t one that should cause any problems.”

“Fine, out with it, then.” I wave my hand at him to hurry. I don’t want to talk about this anymore.

“I’ll be going by Robert. I’ve already been in the press too much with my divorce, and this is a strange situation even for an escort agency, so I want to keep it under wraps if possible.”

“Sure, whatever.” I pause for a moment, gathering my thoughts together. “This is going to be a three hour contract, two for the dinner and one back at your place for a last drink. At ten o’clock, an Uber will take her back home, so I recommend starting at seven.” I can see how displeased he is at the shortness of the gig, so I add, “I really don’t want her sleeping here, but if by any chance she agrees to that part, we’ll come back around to discuss compensation and rules then.”

“I knew I could count on you,” Karl chuckles, finishing his glass. “A truemadam. You can do anything, can’t you, Roxie?”
