“But before then, you were close to them, weren’t you?” Her head cocks to the side, appearing as though she’s inquisitive and not a vapid bitch.

“No, not really. I was underfoot more days than not, and when Yelena and I were running around the property, we were supervised by Ana or theirbebia.” My nerves grow increasingly agitated.

“Oh, so how did you reconnect then?” She knows this. I don’t understand why she’s asking again. She hasn’t embarrassed me yet, and frankly, I doubt she will.

“Church,” I grit out, annoyed that I can’t come up with a reason to make my escape.

“Looking for mentorship because you’re suicidal?” The astounded gasp from the few women who had mostly ignored Seery explodes like a shotgun blast as they stare at me in horror.

“Since you were there,DoctorSeery, aren’t you bound by law to keep your mouth shut?” Their flabbergasted stares now bounce to the woman hellbent on ruining my evening.

“Yeah, you could lose your license, couldn’t you?” Zakar finally steps in with a snarl from behind my tormentor. His eyes are practically black with rage, and the veins in his neck pound. “You wouldn’t be trying to embarrass Abilene, would you?” His swagger as he glides to stand behind me is relaxed, but his hands are tense as they land on my body, itching to wring her neck.

“I’m not her doctor.” Seery lifts her head in challenge.

“But you were for a brief moment.” Levan’s frigid tone causes her to pale and me to shiver as he approaches with Valerian. Each move to stand on either side of me. “I paid you to care for her in her hour of need. You fulfilled a contract, that you signed, from the minute you walked in my door.” His words are laced with accusation as his hand takes mine and brings it to his mouth to kiss the inside of my wrist.

“Ohhhh.” Their neighbor, Natalina, blushes, and her eyes light up as she realizes the relationship between the four of us. Leaning forward, she whispers in my ear, “I’m so happy they’ve found someone,” before winking at me and rushing back to her husband. And I have a feeling that was what Lev & Val had wanted when they came over here because, from the way the man looks over at us, I can see his admiration, but I know from what Natalina has said that he’s extremely possessive about his wife and wouldn’t do well sharing her. But that won’t stop them from telling others about us.

“I didn’t sign a contract about her,” Seery argues.

“One more word about Abilene to anyone, and I’ll have your license, your practice, and, depending on how hurt she is by the things you’ve tried to imply, your life. Don’t fuck with me, Seery. You won’t win this fight.” Levan turns his back on her, and she stomps her foot in a huff, walking away, mumbling under her breath.

“If she turns up dead, you’re going to be the first suspect,” I warn him.

“If I kill her, nobody will find the body.” My surprised gaze flies to meet his, and I’m positive he’s serious.

“Well, then,” Gladys interjects, “why don’t you boys take our girl to dance then? She’s all dressed up to show off, and I’d say you three have a point to make tonight.” She saunters away before they can respond.

Valerian leads me to the dance floor, where a romantic ballad plays from the live band. Pulling me into his arms, he leans down to whisper in my ear, “Have I told you how absolutely fuckable you look in this dress?” My eyes widen at his comment, and he chuckles as I feel Levan and Zakar come up behind me, pressing their bodies to my back and side.

“I believe something was mentioned at the house.” A part of me wants to play coy, but I’m so shy and new at this that I don’t know the proper way to do that.

“How long are we staying for again?” Zak’s impatient groan as he buries his face in the side of my neck, biting and sucking on my rapidly beating pulse, vibrates through my entire body.

“She’ll need sustenance. A lot of it for what we have planned.” Levan’s voice is heavy with desire, and I try to remember to breathe as I glance towards him.

“What, uhm, what do you have planned?” I force the question past my lips despite my fear of the unknown. I know they want sex. We’ve done plenty to get my body prepared for it, but if I’m honest, I don’t understand how the actual act will play out with four of us.

Will they want to take me all at once? Will they take turns? Am I expected to choose who goes first?

“I can see your mind swirling with thoughts. Clear them out now. All you have to do tonight is tell us what you do or don’t like.” Val seems to read my mind.

Turning me in Val’s arms, I’m facing Levan now, his hands on my hips as the other two minimize the space between us. The three of them erect a wall between me and the rest of the world, and I get the feeling that if this relationship works out, this is how it will always be.

But I have to tell them the truth first.

They need to know about my past because I have fears and hang-ups, and I’m not sure I’m the right person for them. Would they even want me when they learn I’ve been sullied by men who are meant to protect me? Men who share my blood.

I see Levan speaking, hear his voice, but I’ve zoned out. My body is forgetting that I love the way they touch me, the promises they make, and is remembering the hell I’ve lived in for so many years. Experiencing the absolute terror of night, of darkness, because that’s whentheywould come. When they would take what didn’t belong to them, and suddenly, I’m transported back to a time when being touched made my skin crawl.

Levan

I sense her shutting down. Even as we guide her gently between us, holding her, making promises of more than she’s ever imagined. Her body is trapped in the agony of before.

The touch ofthem.
