“The Doc’s at the gate,” Elias told him.

He stiffened then forced himself to relax. She was his.

He had to learn to trust.

“Yeah? He didn’t just come in?”

“Nope.”

Interesting.

“Wants to know if he can. Said he sent a message to Juliet, but hasn’t heard back.”

Because he made her put her phone aside while in Little space. Otherwise, she obsessed over it, checking every few moments for a message from her brother.

“So, do I let him in?”

“Wait a sec.” He put the phone on mute. “Duchess?”

“I’m eating, I’m eating,” she replied hastily, stuffing another triangle into her mouth. Both of her cheeks puffed out, making her look like a chipmunk.

“Xavier is here. Wants to come in. Said he sent you a message.”

He walked into her room and grabbed her phone from one of those holders she had everywhere.

She grabbed it, reading the text. “He wants to apologize and see us both.” She glanced up at him and he saw the hope in her face.

“You want to see him, Duchess?” he asked in a gruff voice.

She’d chosen him.

Xavier’s loss was his gain.

But that didn’t mean he could cut the guy from her life. He’d taken care of her for a long time and Brick had to be grateful to him for that.

And he wanted to do what was best for Juliet. The doctor was important to her.

But he best not make a wrong move . . .

“What do you think I should do?”

He cupped her chin. “That wasn’t what I asked. Do you want to see him?”

She winced.

“Duchess, that’s fine. He’s your friend. You should see him as much as you want.”

“He was kind of acting odd last time he was here. He tried to fire you.”

“Because I wouldn’t let him see you. Fact is, I’d have done worse if I’d been in his shoes. So, you want to see him?”

She nodded.

“Good. Tell you what, put your bathing suit on. We’ll talk to him then go swimming after.”

“Where are you going?”

“Just to let him in.” He kissed the top of her head. “I promise to be nice.”
