“How are you doin’ that?” Wolf asked.

“Easy. Send a couple of sweetbutts up to his room after Church. He’ll be out of our hair for an hour or so. You think that’s enough time?”

Zeus looked over at Fox who nodded. “No problem.”

“Good. Let’s see what comes up. I know it will be hard, but we still need to act normal around the dickhead,” Dragon said.

“Can’t wait to have a talk with him in the basement,” Demon mused.

Demon’s remark put a smile on Wolf’s face. Hopefully, they were right about Vic being the snitch. It would bring the club one step closer to ending this lockdown, and Amara Doukas out of this clubhouse and out of his bed.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Amara knocked on the closed door in front of her. She’d been putting this visit off from the moment she’d stepped out of bed this morning.

She waited for a while in silence before she finally heard Cat ask behind the other side of the door, “Who is it?”

“It’s me, Amara.”

“Come in.”

Amara stepped inside Demon’s room and closed the door behind her. Without overthinking it, Amara got on the king-sized bed and hugged her friend.

“I’m so sorry this happened to you, Cat.”

Amara’s tears fell into Cat’s raven hair dipped in pink as flashbacks from Cat being taken from her backyard pierced her soul.

“It’s okay, Amara. I’m fine.”

Amara blinked before she pulled away from Cat’s hug. “Why are you comforting me?”

“Because you’re crying.”

Amara swept a tear from the corner of her eye. “Why am I the only one crying?”

Cat rolled her eyes. “I never cry. You already know this.”

“Maybe you should.”

Cat’s torn upper lip pulled up in a grimace as she wormed into a better upright position, her back resting against the headrest.

“What can I do to help?” Amara asked.

“You can stop babying me. I already have to deal with Demon thinking he knows what’s best for me.”

Amara bit her bottom lip as she amusedly watched her friend grumble about her brother. It didn’t surprise her that Demon hovered over Cat. He’d watched over Amara and Demi ever since her father had brought Demon into their family when Amara had been still a baby.

“I’m sure Demon is just looking out for you.”

Cat puffed out her cheeks before she blew air through her lips. “He told me I couldn’t see Mud in the basement.”

Amara hadn’t heard that name since forever. The last time was after he’d attacked her friend Rosie at a party in the clubhouse. Her father wouldn’t listen to Zeus and Demon who’d demanded that he banned Mud from the club. Amara wasn’t supposed to know this, but she’d overheard Wolf once while he watched the house.

“M-Mud is here?”

Cat nodded. “After those losers took me from your backyard, they brought me to a hunting shed in the woods. Mud was there and he… you get my drift…”

Amara thought long and hard about what she could say to her friend to make her feel better. But there were no words.
