“Maybe I can fill it with more fun memories?” I ask as I slowly take her hands in mine. I stroke my thumb over her knuckles.

Paislee looks up at me, and I'm glad to find her eyes dried up.

“I'm not sure I want to continue to do this anymore.” She tells me quietly as she takes her hands slowly away.

My heart plummets, and I blink the sudden bleakness I feel away.

“Why don't we talk about this when we get home?”

Paislee sighs softly but nods and begins to move toward the car. I push the passenger door open for her, and she settles in.
