“Fuck, Xenon! Let me go! I can save her! Asher!” I screamed my mate's name as tears streamed down my face, but Xeno dragged my kicking ass back to where Mercury was and forced me down.
“Stop!”
“No! You’re wasting time! I can save her! I can get her soul before she ascends like Mercury!”
“You can’t!”
“I can’t die!” I stressed as if that was the problem he was so desperate to drill into my head.
“Yes, you can’t die!” he finally agreed and I was fucking ready to use all my strength to get out of his hold, but he grabbed my hand and pressed it against my stomach. “But he can!”
“Who ca…” I began and then stilled. “What?”
He sighed in relief as his head fell as he muttered, “He will die if you push yourself anymore, Selene.”
“W-W…” I couldn’t even get the word out as I stared at him as he lifted his head to look at me. Since the day I met him, I finally saw true emotion in his eyes as he tried to fight against conflicting emotions before he moved my hand in a circle.
“The child in your stomach, Selene, can die if you push yourself at this stage of the pregnancy,” he said the word slowly to ensure I’d understand. “Amaya and I have been secretly working under Asta’s agency as double-sided agents. Zed doesn’t care about the fact you can revive the Shadowborns.”
He shook his head.
“He’s fighting against you bringing a Howling Heir,” he revealed. “You and Asher are both Howling Shadowborns. Together, you can gather all the fallen packs through the Shadow Realm, but an heir…can easily make them all rise at once.”
I couldn’t even fathom what he’d just said as I stared at him with an open mouth. I was still wrapping my mind around the ultimate truth.

“But…Cinder…”
“Was secretly working with the Italian mafia leader who supports the Mortem Council of Supernaturals motive for one leader. She stole the book and wanted to use that god you guys summoned against you. She came with Zed thinking you were here with Mercury and Kenzo in hopes of finishing you off. She had every intention of killing you or at least harming you enough so you’d miscarriage.”
“How do you…”
“Amaya…explained everything when I was swimming to the surface,” he revealed. “I was supposed to…heal her but you were struggling.” His eyes watered then as he cursed. “It was her…or the baby.”
“You..choose…to protect him,” I whispered. “Xenon…I…can’t…there’s no…way…we…”
“Anything is possible if Mother Moon wishes it,” he whispered and proceeded to help me up. “We need to get you and the others checked.”
“Wait. You can’t tell…Asher yet,” I pressed. Fuck, I wasn’t even ready for this news. “Wait. Dad. Dad said something. Zed can only…be killed by one. Who?”
“Zed can only be killed be killed by the man who saved him from death the first time,” Xenon announced and looked troubled. “Which was your Father.”
Fucking hell…
“He’s gonna try to destroy the Shadow Realm,” I whispered as it finally clicked. “Twenty-four hours…but the only way…to get to the Shadow Realm…oh no.”
“Nyx,” Xenon whispered just as screeching footsteps drew out attention to Asher, Tobias, Azu, Asta, and Zero.
“Someone get to Nyx now!” Xenon commanded and Zero immediately nodded and was gone in a flash of shadows.
“Mercury,” Azu whispered and was at her side in seconds as she coughed and muttered something but I couldn’t decipher it because my own hearing was going in and out like the rest of my senses.
“Shit, Selene!” Asher called out to me, but my eyes were already rolling back as my body dropped. Arms caught me, but the tingling heaviness that overtook my body didn’t make me feel frightened.
It was odd, like a comforting warmth overtook me. I didn’t fight it, as it felt like someone was shaking me while calling my name. The warmth lead me to field, and there, stood a little boy.
My consciousness was slipping, but the little boy turned around to reveal an eye of red with a ring of silver with an eye of blue with a ring of orange. His hair was short and blue with strands of silver and red.
