We smiled and pressed our foreheads together, and then he was pressing me against the sheets — Bluey’s vibrating body leaving my grasp so it could begin to do what it was meant to accomplish.

Tonight is one I won’t forget.

CHAPTER9

Returning To Chaos

“So all I have to do is stand right here,” I began and emphasized where I stood by pointing to the ground, “and look pretty! I can do that.”

Asher and Tobias stared at me for a long minute before Tobias leaned in to whisper, “I think she’ll get in trouble.”

“Me too.”

“Oh c’mon!” I whined and reached out to hook my arm around Kenzo, who was grinning from ear to ear. “I’m with Kenzo! He’s like a walking peace treaty! Certainly, I can’t get in trouble with him looking so angelic!”

The Fae Shadowborn couldn’t help but smirk as he winked at Tobias.

“This white attire does make me look angelic. I really doubt we can get in trouble by standing here in an alleyway, Tobias,” Kenzo offered. “Seriously, we’ll be fine. You guys said this was a simple meeting to validate the territory Asher runs in Shifter City since it's about to be announced that Asher and Azu are stepping down from their Shifter Syndicate positions. Plus, I doubt anyone wants to mess with Alpha Asher with him being the topic of gossip for a few weeks.”

I put my hands together and further smiled.

“See?! Myhusbandis so popular that people would be out of their minds to bother him. Besides, it's only five in the afternoon. No one is going to do shit,” I emphasized and noticed how Asher’s cheeks flushed slightly at my emphasis on ‘husband.’

“Let’s get this over with,” Asher concluded as he fixed his coat that was casually sitting upon his shoulders — sliding his muscled arms into the long sleeves before approaching where we stood. “We should be done in ten minutes and then we’ll head to East Syndicate.”

“Score,” I declared, anticipating his kiss, which was why I slipped my arm out of Kenzo’s so I could go on my tiptoes and glide my hands along Asher’s chest while our lips pressed against each other. “What are my chances of getting new batteries?”

“New ones?” Asher arched an eyebrow at me in question while I mimicked his arched eyebrow with my own.

“The other ones are dead.”

“We did not kill the batteries…” he muttered but didn’t sound sure.

Time to remind him.

“Yes, we did,” I huffed and proceeded to cross my arms over my chest. “They died after we used Bluey all night and then we switched to Pinky and she died too because I didn’t fully charge her since the Shadow Realm doesn’t have outlets!”

“Right,” he replied. “Well…I’ll think about it.”

“No!” I hissed and got right into his personal space as I poked at his chest. “I’m not waiting another four bloody months for batteries, Asher Anarchy.”

“And?” He seemed utterly amused by the idea of me potentially having a tantrum over batteries, but there was no way were we leaving Shifter City without a minimum of five years’ worth of batteries.

“As your wife, I deserve batteries!”

He only further grinned while I pouted like a fuming kitten that was ready to wreak havoc on the world.

“I guess you’ve been good,” he admitted and hooked his hand around the back of my neck before smothering my lips with his. He didn’t hold back, and the kiss ignited tingles of power between us which left the air buzzing with energy.

He broke the kiss, and the two of us breathed heavily as his mismatched eyes danced with amusement while mine were surely determining if he was going to be a good husband or a douche Alpha that needed a sex ban.

“Don’t think like that,” he chuckled, clearly picking up on my diabolical plan before I could formulate it on time. “Fine,” he declared and kissed the bridge of my nose. “Only if you don’t get in trouble.”

“Aww,” I whined and gave him a sad look. “You’re setting me up for failure on purpose!”

“Alright, alright,” he spoke and kissed my forehead. “Fifteen minutes of not getting in trouble and we’ll go buy batteries before dinner.”

“Really?”
