My forehead pressed against hers in that exact moment.

“A-Asher,” she hissed as the scent of my own blood drifted into the air. I couldn’t care less, my attention solely on her as I let my eyes close for a moment.

“Asher, let—”

“Actions do speak louder than words,” I cut her off. “So for a split moment, let me show you what they’re so desperate to hide.”

And then I kissed her.

Boldly, possessively, the passion between us spiked so quickly, it felt like I’d been placed on a rollercoaster ride with no seatbelt to secure me from flying right out.

I allowed myself the moment to get lost in her, and I braced for the bolt of her magic that wished to lash out and destroy me with nothing but its furious energy.

My magic hummed like a buzzing magnet desperate for its other half, and I knew it would be mere seconds before they came together.

Then they did…igniting the world of shadows.

I felt the shift in our atmosphere before Selena sensed it, but I knew this was what I’d been begging for.

The opportunity to finally reveal it all.

We broke the kiss, breathing heavily before her eyes, which danced with confusion and lust, landed on my bleeding neck.

“Oh fuck,” she cursed and immediately began to loosen my tie. My poor mate clearly regretted what she’d done, even though it wasn’t really her fault that I’d stepped into the blade’s sharp surface.

“Selene—”

“Wait. Just… wait,” she begged me as her frantic energy purred through our connection.

“Kneel down for a second,” she urged.

I couldn’t disobey her, which was why I knelt down upon the black surface that was illuminated by the blue light coming from above.

It was hard to hide my bubbling joy that was beginning to grow with each second, knowing all she’d have to do was lift her head to see what was around us.

To see exactly who was in our presence.

She was focused on patching me up, her hands moving swiftly to wrap the fabric around my neck and tie it with just enough force to ensure the wound would clot.

I felt like she knew I’d heal it in no time, but I guessed this was a safety precaution I couldn’t refuse.

“That should do until we get back from wherever this place is.” She spoke in a rush and tried to pull back from me but all I could do was hug her legs so she’d remain right in place. “Asher?”

She looked down at me with pure confusion, and I didn’t need to peer up to confirm that her gaze was upon me.

“Look around you, Selene.”

This was the moment.

Finally. We made it.

“Why would I…” she questioned and lifted her head to peer before her, and I felt her body go rigid as the shock began to settle in. “Father?”

“I knew it would be harder for Alpha Asher to convenience you to wait a bit longer, but I guess this is a good time to propose.”

I bet his words would make no sense to her, which was why I anticipated her question.

“Good time to propose?” she questioned in confusion before proceeding to look down as the words escaped her lips. “Propose wha…” Her words trailed off as her eyes doubled in size.
