Is it a sonic sound attack of sorts?

“Yes,”Eira responded.“They’re getting rather creative, aren’t they?”

Do you think Zed is teaching them various techniques?

“He’s probably embedding new techniques with each experimental Dusk he creates,”Phyx suggested as he stared forward. “We don’t know what his process is in making or getting these creatures. He also could be partnering with the another person.”

That’s right.

I recalled from my memories the mention of another.

Asmodeus? Some man who’s been creating Dusks long before father was still alive.

“The name rings a bell,”Phyx confessed.“We’ll figure it out later.”

We all seemed to be in agreement as we returned our attention to Abyss, who was mere jumps from the group of Dusk.

Clearly, his intention was to wipe them out at once as he took the jump only to push off the summoned platform so he could soar up in the air to gain altitude.

I couldn’t ask what his motives were because they were already in play. His arms raised as he spun the pole of his scythe so rapidly, I couldn’t see the very blade itself.

He had to be chanting some sort of spell, but the words didn’t hit the atmosphere as he sent the scythe, which vanished due to the tremendous speed it was moving, leaving the Dusks scrambling to make a move.

They paused their sonic screeching to send out red tendrils in Abyss’s direction, but he was already dropping towards the road before flames of red and black sprouted from his back to create scorching wings that flapped once to aid him in avoiding the various attacks heading his way.

I was still trying to figure out where the scythe was while my eyes darted from side to side as Abyss moved so swiftly through the sky, it was mesmerizing.

Like a dance of flames mid-air.

Asher was clearly trying to say something to me, but I was so focused on the fight that I couldn’t dare look away for a second. My mission was to figure out where this scythe went.

“It should have hit them by now,” I voiced more to myself. “Where the hell did the scythe go?” I finally looked to Asher, only to realize he wasn’t at my side anymore.

“Wait, what? Asher?!” My head darted all over the place — front, back, side-to-side, but Asher was nowhere to be found. “Shit! I lost Alpha. Uh…Sapphire! We need to locate Asher immediately! Leave autopilot!”

“We are on the right coordinates and following Alpha Asher’s lead. It’s unnecessary to turn off autopilot mode.”

“Unnecessary? Sapphire! He’s not here!”

“I am following the coordinates of Alpha Asher and his bike, Ruby. We are on the right route.”

“Then why the fuck can I see him?” I questioned as my stomach flipped in worry. “Eira?”

“Be at ease, my child.”Her calm, harmonic voice eased the nerves that were tingling through me.“It seems our mate has something intriguing planned.”

“Does that include us driving straight towards the Dusk that aren’t dead yet?” I offered. “Because I really hate being a sitting duc—”

“GRAWEEEE!” I flinched again at the piercing sound, covering my ears in time to avoid the sonic sound that surely had the intention of making my damn ears bleed.

“Oh, Mother Moon? Ya, it’s me. You’re loving shadowborn that you always protect from death. I have a strong feeling I’m going to be facing another ‘close call’ incident any time now, so it would be just grand if you could help me out!” I practically screamed. I then tensed up because at the rate Sapphire was going, we were about to enjoy a lovely crash into the wall of Dusks.

“Woof?”Juniper paused in her running spree to begin growling just as Phyx got up and Eira moved from the shadows with narrowed eyes.

“Stay absolutely still, child.”

I did exactly as she advised and I ended up holding my breath while goosebumps rose up to cover my flesh.

Alpha? Why the hell does it feel like we’re about to die?
