“That’s for killing Master Gaia!” Astra Lexi declared. “Now get the fuck up so I can do it again.”
“That’s our cue to leave,” Malifer declared and didn’t hesitate to tug me along as if we weren’t just leaving our Astra counterparts behind. “Good luck, brother.”
“We’re not fucking brothers!” Nathan snapped and groaned. “Fuck. Really, Lexi? You’re going to kick your Alpha in the fucking balls when I did what I did in your damn favor!”
“I’ll show you what’s in your fucking favor!”
I decided not to turn around and see the mayhem our Astras were going to put themselves through. I worried we’d draw attention to us, but as we neared the exit of the alleyway, I noticed the extremely thin layer of magic that sealed off the alley from unexpected pedestrians.
“Smart,” I praised and squeezed Malifer’s hand. “Anything else I need to be prepared for?” I questioned in an attempt to stall just for a few more seconds.
“Prepare yourself to meet my father again,” he reminded me in seriousness as he turned his head to give me one final look. It felt like he was observing me carefully, as if he feared the sight of what I’d call my past abuser would trigger insanity or something. “I know you’ll want to get payback when you see him, but this is our only chance to make a statement that will leave him trembling in wait for our next move. This is where I need you to rely on me to make the ultimate decisions, Lexianne.” He paused and squeezed my hand back in return. “Can you listen to me just this once?” He was sincerely asking for my cooperation.
With a lingering stare, I slowly nodded. “I’ll follow your lead, Malifer.” I’d at least do my best.
He nodded and lifted my hand to lightly press his lips against the back of it.
“Then let us begin our plan for vengeance.”

“It simply won’t shut up,” the foreign voice noted.
“If this doll sings that lullaby one more fucking time…” another woman snapped.
“Give it up, Lauren,” Nathan snapped in pure irritation. “That’s our fucking ticket to getting Lexi back here. Don’t screw it up when we’re so close.”
“They’re late,” Lauren snapped right back. “And Lexi? It's been what? A few fucking weeks and now you miss her? Is that why it took you so fucking long to get back here from ensuring the wards were up around this shithole of a restaurant? Because you were probably fucking her in an alley?”
“I didn’t do shit! I told you a drunk managed to get stuck in the alleyway and tried to fight me when I told him to scram. You’re fucking lucky I didn’t kill the wasted fucker, or is that what you would have wanted so you’ll shut the fuck up?”
“It’s been well past a month since you sacrificed that bitch to the valley and yet here we are, waiting for an apparent lookalike of your ex-mate to waltz through those doors so we can negotiate a deal to get her. You didn’t tell me that this deal wasn’t revolving around our alliance, so I’m beginning to question why the fuck I’m here if we’re not securing your end of the bargain, Nathan.”
“I’ll hold up my end of the bargain, Lauren,” he hissed.
“Oh, you're going to have to,” she growled while the air spiked with pulsing tension. “The clock is ticking for you and your pack, Nathan. If you believe my father is going to continue twiddling his thumbs and waiting for you to get that cock of yours fixed from your clear addiction to your ex-mate, then let me remind you that his patience is on a very thin thread. I’m the one still stopping him from invading your father’s pack land. Do you want to fuck that up?”
“I get what’s at fucking risk, Lauren! You think I’m fucking blind?” he yelled and glared at the woman with pure hate. “I’ll hold up my end of the bargain. I’ve said that again and again. Your father is an Alpha. He, of all people, should know shifter politics don’t just get fixed overnight. It's clear Lexi is still alive because the bond is still a fucking hindrance like the last five Seers stated, so this is the only chance for us to get rid of the bond and be free of this bullshit!”
I swear my Astra counterpart could be an actor for a living. He’d really perfected this persona of his, which was so believable.
“Stop constantly bringing up unnecessary shit like saying I fucked Lexi or all that nonsense you’re spreading about her not being a virgin. I didn’t fuck her and her purity was intact before we sacrificed her, so drop these jealous antics of yours!”
“That bitch can’t be a virgin and I stand by my words,” she declared.
“Fine. Believe what you wish. We’ll surely find out if she waltzes into this fucking place. In fact, we can take a gamble. If she’s a slut, I’ll uphold my agreement to form an alliance and even throw a ring on your fucking finger. If she’s still pure, you’ll have to tell your father this alliance is off and take full responsibility for it crumbling. You’ll even ensure that we won’t face any negative consequences, which includes attempting to steal our territories. What do you say? A bargain worth agreeing upon.”
“You’re a damn fool for being so confident in that bitch when she rejected you,” Lauren snarled. “How pathetic.”
Nathan growled and his eyes darkened enough to actually freak out the blonde in question as she responded, “Deal. If I’m wrong, the alliance is off and I take the blame without any repercussions towards your pack. That also means our pack can’t raid your pack lands. There. Happy?”
