They both gaped at her. She stared back.

“Understand?” she said slowly. “Alex.Where?”

The thug with a shaved head snorted. He had handsome features, but his eyes were too closely set together. “Isn’t worth my life to tell you that,” he said with a laugh.

“Shut up,” the second thug snapped.

Cora grinned. “So, Alexissomewhere, then? Thanks.”

The second man’s face fell, turning pale. He turned to his comrade. “I…I didn’t mean to—”

“Will youshut up!” the second man snapped.

Cora was beaming now. “So, that’s confirmed then. He’s at the club, right now?”

The first man just sealed his lips, stared at the ground, and refused to speak a word as if terrified of what else he might give away. The more careful of the two just glared at her. Cora shrugged. “Huh. Interesting. So, what happens when I tell Alex that you got his son killed?”

She pointed the gun towards Tito’s unconscious frame.

Both men cursed, attempting to lurch forward, but her weapon whipped up again. She moved with care and precision, her eyes narrowed. And now, the two of them, clearly somewhat thick, seemed to be realizing that even though she was wearing a strapless dress with a slit and some makeup, that perhaps they’d underestimated the threat she posed.

She nodded once. “I will paint the ground with his head if you don’t tell me what I want to know.”

But the two thugs just shook their heads. The one who’d spoken at first and been reprimanded whimpered, “He’s leaving soon anyway.”

“God dammit, Leoni!” the first one said. “What’s wrong with you?”

Cora frowned. “Leaving soon? Is he going to stop by here on the way?” She considered her options. “How is he going to leave?”

But now both men had gone completely quiet.

Cora frowned. Part of her had known that stealth was going to be the best way to get what she wanted. At least, it had gotten her this far. But on the other hand, these two thugs were too terrified to tell her anything about their boss.

It was a tough call, but in the end, she could only think of one option.

Tito was unconscious. Alex was out there somewhere in the club. Not in the offices. Not on the dance floor, most likely. But somewhere. And he was leaving soon.

Saul Brady had done right by her so far. She wondered what he’d think if she wrapped Alex Karpov up and ticked off one from the Most Wanted List all the while figuring out who’d killed Johnny’s sister.

It was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

And so, Cora moved quick. The gun surged forward, hitting the first man in the side of the head. At the same time, her foot shot up, flashing a bit more than modesty might have allowed before her shin struck his skull with a resoundingthunk.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Cora was already moving by the time they slumped over, both unconscious. One of them fell off the edge of the table, dislodging pens and scattering a desk ornament—small little metal balls broke from translucent string and rolled across the ground, bumping against Tito’s outstretched hand.

She stepped over the fallen scarecrow, frowned, then bent down, reached towards his ankle, removed the knife, and slipped it into her thigh sheath.

Then, with a mutter of, “Sorry boys,” she turned back, undid the belt of the nearest thug, and removed it with his holster and weapon. She grabbed the other man’s holster, also attaching it to the belt. She secured this around her waist, tightening it against her dress fabric.

She supposed it wasn’t a very common sight to see a woman carrying a giant hand cannon and wearing a belt around a dress, but for now she was going for efficiency rather than fashion. With the knife in place and three guns in her possession, she paused once more, removing the wallet from Tito’s pocket. She slipped it behind the thigh sheath and then stepped over him again.

As she moved towards the metal door that led out to the dance floor, she knew she would have to move fast.

Six men had lined the hall. At least another six outside. Five more on the dance floor. And those were just the ones she had seen. No sign of Alex Karpov. No sign of any of his escort, which undoubtedly there would be.

But it was too much of an opportunity to pass up.
