He slapped at the pain in his leg. “Yeah, I think I pulled something.”

Once he had his shoes back on, Holly was right there, ready to help him to the mini-SUV. Diane drove, so he and Holly squeezed in the back with Justin.

“I can sit back there,” Aimee said, as she stood outside the SUV and stared at the two empty captain seats.

Eric nodded to Justin, and he hopped out of the back seat and into one of the captain seats. “Come sit by me, Ames,” Justin said. “I have something for you.”

“You do?” Her face was bright pink as she climbed into the car.

“Yep.” Justin handed her a box, the same box with the necklace Eric had purchased for the other two girls. “Everyone got a necklace that matched their dress, so I wanted to get one to match yours.”

Her eyes lit up as she glanced at Eric and Holly in the back seat. “Really? Justin, that was so thoughtful.” She pulled out the necklace and gasped. “So pretty. You picked this out?”

Justin shot a look behind him, and Eric almost thumped him. What was he trying to do? Give it all away?

Eric raised his eyebrow, and realization flooded Justin’s features. Finally. “Can I put it on you?” he asked.

Her cheeks shined even brighter as she grinned. “Of course.” She turned toward the window and Justin slipped it around her neck and clasped it in the back. Once it was on, she turned and fingered the heart. “I love it.”

“Good eyes, Eric,” Justin said.

Aimee turned around and stared at him. “You picked it up?”

He inwardly groaned, ready to pummel Justin. “Justin is the one who wanted to give it to you.” Not a total lie, but he felt bad for his half-truth.

“Thanks, both of you.”

Eric glanced over at Holly to see her frowning. He leaned in so they wouldn’t be overheard. “It’s okay.”

She shook her head. “I feel bad deceiving her,” she whispered in his ear.

“We could always tell her.”

She seemed to be considering it, and he prayed things would go in his favor. He was tired of having a closet relationship.

Holly

Once dinner was finished, and Holly felt ready to pop, the waiter handed out their separate Herberts. Cameron grabbed for Diane’s, and before Holly had a chance to look at her own ticket, Eric snatched her Herbert.

“I’ve got it,” he mumbled, squeezing her hand—which he had kept hidden under the table the entirety of dinner.

She smiled and silently thanked him.

“Are you two on a date?”

Both of them looked at Aimee, and Holly felt the blood rushing from her face. “Why would you think that?” she asked, her voice breaking.

“Because you two have been close for a few weeks now, and you held hands while skating.”

“Aimee, I—” Holly started to speak, but Aimee cut her off.

“Let me see your hands.”

“What?” Eric asked.

Aimee softened her features when talking to Eric, but gave Holly a scathing look. “Let me see your hands.”
