“So, yeah, my heart is set on going, but if I need to back out, I’ll do it. I won’t leave Wesleigh hanging like that.”

“It’s just the second week in the month,” he says hopefully. “I’m sure you’ll figure something out.”

Time passes way too quickly and before she realizes it, the two of them have been chatting for over an hour. Surprisingly, Jameson has been easy to talk to and she’s found him to be quite interesting. Way out of her league, but definitely someone who’s smart and career driven. Unlike Tyler, he was eager to hear more about what she wanted out of life and what she planned to do to get there.

Kat pulls her phone from her purse to check the time. “Oh, no,” she says as a wave of panic washes over her. “I was supposed to be at my job ten minutes ago. I picked up an extra shift and I bet they’re wondering why I haven’t shown up.”

“I won’t hold you up any longer, Kathryn. Thank you for having coffee with me this morning,” he says and slides to the end of the booth.

“I’ve actually enjoyed the company,” she smiles, their gazes locking a little longer than they probably should.

“Perhaps we could see each other again,” he suggests.

“You know,” Kat replies as she pushes her purse up on her arm. “Perhaps I’d like that too.”

“Would you like to go to dinner? I’m free tomorrow evening if you are.”

“I’d love to.”

“Does seven work for you?” he asks as they walk out to the sidewalk.

“I can be ready by then,” she says and looks over at him. “Can you tell me where we’re going so, I’ll know what to wear?”

Jameson hesitates before answering. “Wear something similar to what you were wearing Friday night.”

“Oh yeah?” she teases, a slight twinkle in her eye.

“Definitely.” Jameson winks then stops before getting into his car. “See you tomorrow night.”

Instead of pulling out behind him, she watches until she’s no longer able to see his car. Did she really just accept a dinner date from one of the sexiest men she’s ever laid eyes on?

Wait until Wesleigh finds out about this, she says to herself then slowly pulls from her parking spot.

Chapter 7

Jameson

Jameson spends the better part of the day on the phone with multiple contractors, trying to make up his mind what he wants to do with Magnolia Park. A few days ago, he was dead set on his plans, but after listening to Kathryn, everything now is up in the air. And the worst part, he almost regrets sending out the notice about the rent hike.

When it’s finally time to shower and start getting ready, he takes his time shaving and fixing his hair. Sure, some women liked a little bit of stubble and the messy-hair look, but he was old school—clean shaven and not a single hair out of place for him.

Instead of slacks, he opts for a pair of snug-fitting jeans that seem to hug his muscular thighs in all the right places. Brown loafers and a button down short-sleeve shirt complete his outfit. The smidgen of gray right above his temples catches his eye in the mirror just as he’s getting ready to leave. Turning his head to the left then to the right, he lifts his chin. “You clean up well, Jameson,” he says out loud then walks out to his car.

The drive across town takes him less than fifteen minutes and he cringes as soon as he pulls into the front entrance. Tomorrow he will look into getting a new sign—that dilapidated wooden sign just doesn’t cut it.

He slowly pulls through the complex, anxious to see what Kathryn’s going to have on tonight. He’d called earlier just to confirm which unit she and her best friend occupied, and if Vivian Legend suspected he what he was up to, she hadn’t let on.

Stopping out front, Jameson sighs deeply and heads up the steps. Kat opens the door just as he’s getting ready to knock. A huge smile spreads across her face as soon as she sees him.

“Hello,” she says, her bright red lips making her teeth look as white as milk. “You’re early.”

Looking down at his watch, he replies, “I’m right on time.”

“Are we ready to go?” she asks and picks up her purse from a table just inside the doorway.

When she finishes locking the door and turns around, Jameson’s breath hitches in his throat.Damn, she looks even better tonight. The one-piece jumpsuit she has on is low-cut in the front, giving him quite an eyeful of her cleavage. If he were a betting man, he was almost certain she wasn’t wearing a bra tonight. To top things off, she’d decided to wear a pair of red heels, giving her a good two-inch advantage. The view from behind as she carefully takes each step, is
