“Come for me, Muñeca. Motherfucking come,” I hiss through clenched teeth, my orgasm licking at every nerve ending and when she gasps, I bury myself deep and let go. Each spurt of my ejaculation mixes with hers and drips out onto the sheets when I pull out slowly and slide back in.

We’re a mess, her breathing and mine labored, but I don’t stop loving her. I can’t.

Instead, I cover her sated body with mine and prolong our pleasure. We ride it out one lazy thrust at a time with no rush or words needed.

This is the perfect way to start our Valentine’s Day.

THE LAST AFTERSHOCK of bliss flowed through my body about fifteen minutes ago, but I’m still in sensory nirvana. My thighs are slick, and where Javi’s fingertips are currently running up and down my bare back, I have goose bumps accompanied by the occasional shiver.

The house is quiet. We speak with soft caresses and the occasional kiss on whatever inch of skin our lips can reach.

But in this moment, I feel closer to heaven than earth. I’m at peace and feel like nothing in this world could ruin our moment.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Mrs. Lucas. I love you.” It leaves him in a low timbre. Those words are his truth, and I cherish them because in a world full of death and pain—hate and bloody prints left behind—our relationship is the one constant glow of purity we follow without hesitation.

“Always and forever,” I whisper just as low and cuddle closer, nuzzle his chest, and lay a kiss on his pec. I never thought I’d end up like this, married and happy with thoughts of growing old and rocking in a chair with a glass of wine in hand, but here I am: celebrating the day of love and friendship in Colombia and thoroughly satiated by this beautiful man.

I’m a lucky bitch.

“Nap time or round two?” Javi asks, the smile in his voice making my own lips stretch wide.

“Nap, then two, three, and four.” No sooner had the last word left me that we hear it. The sound is subtle but piercing in the quiet house: glass breaking and then hushed voices thirty seconds later.

Our eyes meet at once, and there is no fear. No doubts. No questions.

Like the team we are, we rise from our position slowly and climb out of the bed. He grabs a pair of sweats from a drawer, and I grab his old national soccer club shirt and pair it with some boxers I roll at the waist.

The intruders are searching downstairs, and it won’t be long before they ascend to the second level and our room.

“Shoot first and aim to kill.” Javi’s walking to our closet where the closest gun safe is. It’s always open, and he grabs a Glock for me and a 1911 for himself. We check the magazines just as someone curses—it’s not quiet, either, and I raise a brow in question at what the man said. “They think we aren’t home.”

“Always check the upstairs.” I push the clip back in and take the safety off. “Divide and conquer.”

“Smart girl.” Exiting together, we walk to the entrance and pause just within the door. Our bedroom floor is soundproof—a benefit of having to create a drop ceiling on the room below and seal it off as a weapons room for his more extensive collection. Moreover, even I have a few pieces here that he’s given me and what’s better, without descending the spiral staircase hidden in an empty storage closet inside the bathroom, you’d never know it’s there.

“I’ll keep one for interrogating.”

“Have fun hunting, Muñeca.”

“Happy hunting, love.” Rising onto the tips of my toes, I kiss his lips once and then head for the loft area with a railing that overlooks the front end of the house. From my position, I can make them out—talking below, right by the formal living room but not quite by the stairs. Flicking my eyes toward my husband, I hold up five fingers. Five intruders, and two are quite pudgy from what I see. Javier nods and moves to stand just to the left and behind the wall, which covers him from view.

“You said they’d be here,” the youngest of the five hisses, waving his hand in the air with what looks to be an old pistol. “Who was the informant again?”

“Technically, no one,” the older of the fluffy men answers. He’s standing to the right of the younger and has his weapon in the waistband of his pants. Amateur. “An acquaintance of mine worked at the airport and mentioned seeing the beautiful ex-first daughter there with Alejandro in tow. He’d always had an infatuation with her and called me once his shift finished that day to tell me they were heading to Las Vegas in the States.”

“I’m still stuck on the worked?” I couldn’t see the one who spoke, but his tone held amusement.

“I put a bullet between his eyes. No loose ends.”

“Right call, Parce.” The voice steps into my viewpoint, and I adjust my aim to his head. There’s a gut instinct that tells me he’s in charge and when you take out the head of an army, the soldiers fall. “I appreciate your due diligence.”

“Thank you, Patron.” Yup. I want him dead first.

From the corner of my eyes, I catch Javi signaling me to shoot now after pocketing his phone. When he grabbed it, I have no clue, but I’m guessing he sent out a message asking for men that work for the Lucas family to come and clean up. I doubt they’ll be quick enough to join in on the fun, but stranger things have happened in the past.

Taking a deep breath, I crouch down using the couch as cover and resettle my aim. Their boss has moved and is at the bottom of the stairs where it’s easier for Javier to take the kill shot. However, the man who used data given without ill intent against us and the younger intruder who asked about said information went down quickly. Two bullets leave my Glock and one goes through a skull while the other a chest, each doing enough damage to kill.
