Now I knew who Fallyn called. The office traitor. Was I being a little immature about this? Yes. But I was going to allow myself the indulgence, because this was one of the most important weeks of our lives—of the lives of everyone I worked with. “Do I have a third option?”

“You have a lot of options, I assume. But if you’re not going to let her stay with you, like you promised, I’ll come pick her up.”

“Does your girlfriend know you’re getting some on the side?” Yup, that was me crossing a line. I knew it as soon as I said it. Nigel would be within his rights to deck me the next time he saw me.

Instead, he chuckled. “Megan loves Fallyn. They craft in game together. Hell, Landon adores her too.”

My growl slipped out without my permission. “He’s only been working for me for a few months, and you already have him hiding things from me?” Like playing the game however and with whomever he wanted.

“Do you want me to come pick her up? Save her from the troll who lives in the forest?”

I’m not the troll, she is. Nope. I wouldnotsay that out loud. I also hated the idea of someone else coming to Demon Kittie’s rescue, even if she was wearing Fallyn’s body.

I’d pulled strings with Chloe to get Demon Kittie a media pass. I’d spent nights hurrying to finish work so I could play with her and Link—both dungeon crawls and in-game sex hotels. And that entire time I’d cursed Fallyn’s name every time she shared another broken bit of our beta with her audience.

“I’ve got it handled,” I said to Nigel.

“K. See you at work Monday.” He hung up.

I raked my fingers through my hair, steeled myself, and opened the front door again.

Fallyn scrambled to her feet from her spot on the porch, and whirled to face me. The conflicted feelings that surged inside me in response were suffocating. Did I want to fuck her or curse her name?

Both.

While we were both naked and I had her pinned to the wall, my cock buried inside her.

“Can we start again?” Her voice was timid. Sweet.

Arch nemesis.

I sucked my teeth. “No. We really can’t. How do I know you’re really Kittie?”

“How do I really know you’re Puff69?” She countered.

“You’re at the address I gave Kittie, and I answered the door. Because it’s my house.”

She winced. “I…” She sighed. “I know that the tattoos on the insides of your wrists cover a different kind of scar.”

Old ones. Long healed ones. Mostly. Scars I’d never told anyone about except Link and the woman I’d stayed up toolate one night sharing dark secrets with. “You can stay in the guesthouse. I’ll get you a key.”

“You have a guest house?” Her eyes grew wide, and her awe seemed genuine, which made her a lot cuter than I wanted her to be. Especially with the way her h’s dropped off when she spoke. “Maybe it’s a mansion after all.”

The comment was soft, as if she was talking to herself.

It wasn’t quite a mansion, but it was ridiculously big, especially for one person. I’d inherited it from my grandfather. It was the family homestead. “Yes, I have a guesthouse. I’ll show you the way.”

She grabbed her suitcase, and I resisted the impulse to carry it for her. It was wheeled, and she wasn’t struggling, and—

“Let me get that for you.”

“I’m okay, thanks.” Fallyn held onto the handle tightly.

Right. To the guest house. We wandered through the living room to the dining room, and paused at the back patio door when I saw all the snow blocking the path from here to the house behind mine. I needed to shovel before we could walk that path. I didn’t think this through very well because Kittie was supposed to stay in the spare room across the hall from me. Or even better, in my bed.

“Um…” Fallyn’s soft voice interrupted my thoughts.

Kittie had told me she was shy in person. Part of her being here was to help her break out of her shell, at her request. This soft-spoken woman was a lot more like what I expected from Kittie than what I saw from Fallyn. Maybe they were actually sisters. The evil twin and the good twin.
