I glance up at the store window in front of us. Chanel.

In the window, taking up the entire space, is a gown.

It’s white and stunning, a mermaid cut with pale golden gems set into the sweetheart neckline and the slit up the front. The train froths around behind the dress like seafoam.

“Wow…” Annie tugs her sunglasses down her face.

Elle presses her nose to the glass. “Shit.”

“Now that’s a dress.” Callie whistles.

I’ve worn my share of beautiful dresses but nothing like this.

“If you wanted divine intervention, it’s hard to get more divine than Chanel,” Annie points out.

“There’s no way that’s my dress.”

So, why am I talking in a hushed tone as though I’m in church?

“You want to try it on?” Elle asks.

Anticipation bubbles through me. “Hell yes.”

We go inside, and the sales associate eyes the dog but lets us in so long as he stays next to Elle.

I step out of my street clothes to try it on, feeling silly even as I lift my arms to let the gown down over my head.

There’s no way this will work.

There’s no way…

It fits perfectly.

Every inch of lace and beading hugs my curves as if it were made for them.

The sales associate helps me fasten it, and I step out to see my friends.

Annie gasps and Elle whistles.

“Rae, open your eyes,” Annie says.

I hadn’t realized I’d squeezed them shut.

Now when I open them and turn toward the mirror, I’m presented with a sight that steals my breath.

I look like a princess.

No, a queen.

This is the dress.

I check the price tag and nearly faint.

Annie peers over my shoulder, unfazed. “Money can’t buy happiness, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt.”

I have them put it on hold for me.

“Where are the guys? They’ve been gone a long time.” I pull out my phone and dial Harrison.
