Felix and I exchange a nervous glance. Did we miss something? Fuck. No, there’s no way.

“Soph, let’s get you home. Brooke, you too.” Dominic finally manages to pull Sophia out of her stupor.

I release Brooke, keeping my hand on her waist to steady her. “I’ll walk you—”

“Blaze,” Charlie hisses. Her eyes flit between me and her mother, who’s watching us with narrowed eyes.

My hand drops from Brooke’s waist, and I instantly feel cold. She turns to look at me with a hurt longing in her eyes before she turns and follows Dominic and Sophia inside the house.

Charlie wraps her arm around my waist while I glare at Tristan. The motherfucker has the audacity to laugh.

“Are you okay?” Charlie’s words take a second to register.

He’ll stop at nothing. Fucking nothing.

“No,” I say evenly. Then I kiss her on the head. “Let’s get out of here.”

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

BROOKE

AS DOMINIC STARTS the car, I slide into the backseat next to Soph. She’s shaking and holding back tears.

Normally, if some bitch cheated on my brother, I’d rip her to shreds in an instant. But something’s not adding up here.

Protect her. Please.

We ride in silence for a few minutes. At a stoplight, Dominic finally speaks.

“What happened, Soph?”

She takes a deep breath, and I slide my hand over hers.

Benefit of the doubt. Give her the benefit of the doubt.

“He forced me to kiss him and filmed it.”

Dominic makes a strangled noise, and he grips the steering wheel. “He did what?”

I squeeze Sophia’s hands, relief flooding my body. I knew her cheating on Alex with Tristan didn’t make sense.

“He’s behind Alex’s arrest somehow, too. He told me ‘one down, three to go.’”

I shiver. I can only imagine Tristan was talking about Alex and the Graysons.

Dominic swears under his breath as he turns onto his street. Then he says, “He’ll be okay, Soph. It’s not like he actually killed his dad. This will all get sorted out soon enough.”

My chest feels ten tons lighter at his words. Of course I never believed for a second that Alex killed our father. But hearing Dom reiterate it makes me feel so much better.

When we get to his house, he shuffles us inside, ignoring the little girl and her mother who are still playing outside. Sophia sits numbly in the living room while Dom disappears upstairs.

“This is all my fault,” she murmurs, staring out the window.

“You couldn’t’ve seen this coming, Soph.” I sit next to her and wrap her up in my arms. My brother may have just been arrested, but he’s also her boyfriend. I tense. “Wait, does Alex actually think you cheated on him?”

She shakes her head. “It was staged. So Tristan thinks he won.” She sags against me. “I hate him, Brooke.”

“I know,” I murmur, stroking her blonde hair. Sophia has a complicated history with Tristan, and most of it isn’t pretty. Hell, none of us have a good history with that jackass.
