ALEXANDER

THERE ARE certain times in my life that are a blur.

Parts of my childhood. Most of my senior year. Summers home during my college years. And now, the past few days.

Somehow, I got out on bail. Probably because the evidence against me is pitiful and I have a rock-solid alibi. Oh, and the best lawyer in the entire city.

Tristan had released a photo of me with my father on his boat to the police. It hadn’t even been on the day he died, although there was a timestamp that said it was.

I should be focused on proving my innocence. On getting this goddamned tracker off my ankle. But when my lawyers aren’t bugging me, or Brooke isn’t fussing over me, my thoughts only go to one place.

Sophia.

Her blue eyes had been swimming with tears the last time I saw her. Sure, our fight had been staged, but I still accused her of cheating on me in front of everyone at my mom’s party. But there hadn’t been another way. I had to make sure Tristan saw.

My plan had been to soothe her personally, as soon as I could after the party. But of course Tristan just had to sic the police on me.

It’s an interesting strategy, I’ll give him that. It’s definitely kept me distracted and off his case. But I’m done. Tristan thinks he won, and he can continue to think that for now. It just gives me an edge.

“Done.” Felix’s voice cuts through my thoughts. He’s standing a few feet away from me, hands shoved into his pockets.

I get up from my spot on the couch. God knows how long I’ve been sitting here. “Did you find anything?”

He nods. “He had bugs in most rooms. I did a pretty thorough sweep, but I can have one of the guys go through everything again if it’d make you feel better.”

Shaking my head, I say, “I’m sure you got it all. You’re good at what you do. So we’re able to talk freely now?”

He nods, his lips pressed together into a thin line.

“I want to see Sophia. And we need to get our shit together. If Tristan is going to keep pulling stunts like this, we’re in trouble.”

Felix nods grimly. “At least we had the foresight to make sure you had an alibi the day of your father’s death.”

With a sigh, I pick up my phone to text Dom. “I don’t care about that. This is just a distraction. We need to take Tristan and David down, and we need to do it quickly.”

Felix watches me closely. “You’re not planning on doing anything stupid, are you?”

I pause, meeting his gaze. Felix is sharp—of course he hasn’t forgotten that I suggested killing them a few days ago. But Dominic had been right. We need to take down their whole operation, otherwise their trafficking gig will just continue without them. “I’m not going to kill them. Not yet.”

Nodding, Felix plucks my phone out of my hands. “Dominic is already on the way with Sophia. Same with Blaze and Brooke. Just sit tight.”

I run a hand through my hair. “I can’t. I need to see her. And I need to get her out of this. Have we made any progress?”

“Yes, actually. We have someone on the inside at David’s house. He has a fairly predictable schedule, so she’s planning on getting me inside so we can go through his office.”

“Who the hell do you have?”

“His maid.” Felix begins pacing in front of the TV. “We can trust her. For now, at least.”

I narrow my eyes, watching him. His shoulders are a bit tense, and his hands are still deep in his pockets. “How do we know that?”

For a moment, Felix stops. Then he turns to face me. “She owes me a favor.”

“That’s one hell of a coincidence.”

He shakes his head. “She has some motive of her own. I’m not sure what, but she’s willing to help us.”

“That doesn’t mean she’s on our side, though. She’s on her own.” Dominic’s voice causes both of us to turn. He’s standing next to Sophia, whose eyes are trained on me. “But we both have a common enemy. That’s what matters.”
