“God, I love you.” I kiss her, tasting the sweetness from the donut and the bitterness from the coffee. She moans, and I bite her bottom lip.

When she opens her legs, I grab her thighs and pull her to the edge of the counter. She gasps, grabbing onto my arms.

“I won’t let you fall,” I murmur against her lips. She whimpers as I yank her leggings and panties down in one go.

This. This is what I’ve been craving for the past twenty-four hours.

She unclasps her bra, revealing her milky white breasts. Her nipples are rosy and hardened, begging for my tongue.

With one hand holding her, I dip her backward and take one into my mouth. Her high-pitched moan sends a zap of pleasure through me.

I undo my pants and shove them down. “Do you want me, little bird?”

“Yes,” she says, her voice breathy and light. Her legs wrap around my waist. “Please, Xan.”

I position myself at her entrance and slide in an inch or two. “Fuck, you’re already soaked.”

We both moan as I roll my hips forward and fill her. My thumb circles her clit, and her head tilts back. When I pick up my pace, she digs her nails into my arms. I groan at the pain, slamming into her.

I want this to last forever, but it has to be quick. So I angle my hips to hit one of her sweet spots, stroking her clit with my finger.

“Xan,” she moans. Her whole body tenses. “Oh fuck, oh god. Xander!” She screams as she arches her back, and I come with her.

I lighten the touch of my finger on her clit, still stroking softly. This woman—this woman. She couldn’t be any more perfect.

She holds onto my shoulders, looking into my eyes. Her lips are slightly swollen from kissing me, and her face is slack from her post-orgasm haze.

Beautiful. Absolutely perfect.

And completely mine.

I SPEND THE whole day locked in my office, only coming out to check on Sophia and to eat.

As the day passes, she becomes increasingly restless. Sure, she’s been able to write all day, but the secrets between us are getting to her. But I can’t tell her—I just can’t. The less she knows, the better off she is.

So I get to work, making phone call after phone call, plotting away.

By the end of the day, we have half a plan:

Apparently Felix has a way to get to David’s maid, which gives us someone on the inside. And Dominic says he might have a lead, but the fucker is being all mysterious about it.

And Blaze is working on coordinating a group of guys from Grayson Security to tail Tristan and David. We’ve tried before, but they’ve always caught on. So we need to find ways to follow them more conspicuously.

Once we can find where they’re operating from, we can finally take them down—for good.

The thought of killing should scare me, or make me feel some kind of guilt. I shouldn’t want to kill anyone. But I promised myself a long time ago that I’d do whatever is necessary to keep what’s mine safe. And I’ve kept that promise, dammit. I’m not going back now.

There’s a soft knock on the door, and I jerk up. How long have I been staring out the window?

“Come in,” I say, running a hand through my hair.

Sophia pops her head in with a timid smile. “Hey. I just wanted to see if you were hungry.”

For a moment, I just stare at her. She’s in shorts and a tank top, with her hair in a messy bun. Completely relaxed, like she’s made a decision that’s been weighing on her for some time. I’ll never get enough of seeing her walking around my home.

“Xan?”

I glance at my phone. It’s already after six, and I have a text from Anna saying she has dinner ready. “Yeah, let’s eat.”
