What game is she playing?

“Just for a little while?” She peeks up at me, her eyes wide. “It doesn’t have to be super permanent.”

“I—yes. Yes, of course. The more I have of you, the better.” I kiss her gently, worried that if I use too much force she’ll dissolve in my arms.

That solves that problem.

“Tonight?” She sniffles again.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way. Why don’t you start packing?”

She nods, but the rest of her body doesn’t move. Her fingers are still fisting my shirt, and her breaths are uneven.

Tilting her chin up with a few fingers, I stare down into her perfectly blue eyes, still shining with unshed tears. “You’re sure there’s nothing else going on?”

She stares at me for a moment before whispering, “Positive.” Then she finally lets go of me and heads into her room.

I watch her while she packs. She keeps tugging at the sleeves of her hoodie.

“I’ll just take what I need for now.” She pulls out a few sundresses from her closet, shoving them into her bag.

“Bring the yellow one.”

Sophia pauses. “It was just one date, Xander. He’s an asshole anyway.”

Good.

Regardless, her words do nothing to soothe the jealousy that I’ve been wrestling with since I saw her in his arms. “Pack. the. dress.”

She rolls her eyes and ignores me, opening a drawer and taking out some tiny shorts and tank tops. When she doesn’t turn back to the closet, I step in front of her.

She lets out a small squeak, holding the pile of clothes to her chest.

“Don’t test me, little bird.”

Her eyes darken just a bit, the way they always do when I use her pet name. I take the opportunity and push her against the dresser.

Her mouth opens slightly when I snatch the clothes from her hands and throw them onto her bed. When my hand wraps lightly around her throat, she moans.

“I told you already, I’m not going to let you remember this dress as anything other than the one you wore while I fucked you until you screamed for the whole neighborhood to hear.” I trace a finger down the front of her hoodie. “We can do that now, or we can do it later.”

Her eyes widen. “Later. I’ll pack the dress.”

Satisfaction blooms in my chest. Stepping back, I watch as she snatches the dress from its hanger. Her cheeks are tinted pink.

I love seeing her flustered.

Once she’s finished packing, I shoulder her bag. She’s about to protest, but I raise my eyebrow at her.

She rolls her eyes, but her mouth stays shut.

The drive home is silent. I don’t even have the radio on. The whole time, Sophia twirls a small ring around her finger.

By the time we pull into the garage, my patience is wearing thin. I’m tempted to drag her upstairs, tie her up, and deny her an orgasm until she tells me what’s going on in that pretty little head of hers.

But I don’t. Somehow, I manage to get all the way upstairs without so much as touching her.

“I’ll clear out a few drawers and make some space in my closet.” Setting her bag on the bed, I turn to face her.
