“What do you mean?”

He nodded to the mess she just made. “You’ve been stabbing it for a few seconds.”

Crap. “I’m angry that Doug would put me in this position.” Paris blew out a breath. Paris supposed that a few days away from her place would allow her to sleep better. “I’m sure now. I’d like to take you up on your offer.”

Grayson grinned, whereas Rider looked as if she’d told him he only had days to live. Those two certainly were a pair.

Once they finished eating, the men paid, despite her telling them she could afford it.

“Ready to go pack?” Grayson asked.

“I guess so.”

Rider held out his hand. “How about I drive?”

“Why?”

“Not to scare you, but we can’t be sure that Doug isn’t out there right now with the intention of following you home.”

Paris planted a hand on her hip. “Is that the way you calm someone down? Because if it is, you suck at it.”

Grayson punched Rider in the arm. “Way to go, Romeo.” He stepped next to her. “Rider is just trying to keep you safe. He is an expert driver. If anyone can get away from someone, it’s him.”

She smiled. “Thank you, Grayson. That was so much better than Rider’s approach.”

Grayson chuckled. “Remember not to antagonize the wolf on the way to your place. I assume you don’t live too far from here?”

“No, and I’ll make sure Rider doesn’t lose you on purpose.”

Rider threw her a glance that was tinged with a bit of ice. She didn’t care. He deserved it.

Naturally, Paris checked out the lot for a black truck when they left, and Rider and Grayson did the same. “I don’t see him,” she said.

“If Doug plans to follow you, he might have parked down the street.” Rider held up a hand. “Or, he’s home watching television, having a drink because you have a boyfriend.”

“Assuming he believed our little kiss.” He also could be home watching her via the camera on the front of her car.Damn Doug.

Rider smiled at her but sobered quickly. “In the morning, I’ll drop you off in front of the building. I can kiss you goodbye so the world will know we’re together if you’d like.”

That would be terrible and wonderful at the same time. “The guard won’t let you inside the gate.”

“Then I’ll drop you off by the guard gate and blow you a kiss.”

“Oh, that will be believed.” Not.

CHAPTERELEVEN

Grayson helpedParis with her suitcases while Rider remained in the living room. The more she was around them, the more she realized that Grayson was a good guy. Rider? He could be charming, but his intensity was a bit scary at times.

“Thanks. I can handle it from here.”

“We can come back any time you want.”

That implied she’d be away from the house for quite a while. “Are we talking days or weeks?”

“Hopefully a couple of days, but it depends on what we find.” Grayson then returned to the living room.

It took Paris about fifteen minutes to gather her things since she’d need work and casual clothes as well as something to lounge in at night. Because the motel room didn’t have a kitchen, they’d be going out to eat. Not having her car would be a problem, but she didn’t want Doug to know her comings and goings.
